Geo

The Geo brake booster is realatively small in length and with. I did not cut my firewall so it may seem a little larger than it acually is. I will be putting a 2F in this winter as well and there is no doubt that it will fit. Without question this has been the best modification that I have made to date, just in case any of you are on the fence.

Geo Metro Swap

Just came across this thread that I started awhile ago and post #21 is incorrect. Basically my last posting regarding the 2F fitting without cutting the firewall support is incorrect- I just had to cut mine. However, I didn't just cut it out and leave a jagged edge. I was able to leave the outer rib portion and wrap/weld it back in to somewhat maintain a finished look. I'm at work so I don't have any pictures but I will post some later.

I used a mini truck booster i had laying around. Fits great.

How did you direct the manifold vacuum\? Split the existing 4X4 feed?

I haven't actually hooked that up yet, although I did briefly look at it yesterday. The new 2F has a port for the brake booster. I just need a longer hose.

I lied. I attempted to put my air cleaner on today and it does not clear. I am glad i stumbled upon this thread. I will have to go the alternate booster....

The nicest dual circuit setup I have seen, and would try myself, is a master off a Camry that Onesprung60 used on his '67...looks almost stock!

Post #102 and #135 of this thread; https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/447196-onesprung60-1967-fj40-frame-off-restore-7.html

Edit: I hope to see someone try this setup, and give us some feedback.

I think even with the GEO booster i would be in tr4ouble. My MC is out of a 78FJ40. Its very long, i think a 60 series MC would be better suited...its shorter and has one reservoir that feeds the system.

The truck on that link is an AMAZING build... One day i hope to be that complete with Roy....

GEO fits, just barely but not without cutting the firewall support.

Here's the breakdown for my '64:

1F- Fits perfectly with break booster spacer & no cutting of the firewall support. Minor, previously mentioned, changes to engine bay.

2F- Have to cut the firewall support & use a 1/4" spacer for GEO break booster. The hole that the break booster passes through into the cab will also have to be enlarged. 4 holes have to be drilled into firewall to secure break booster. There's about 1/4" clearance between m/c & carb.

no booster though..

True, the thread title says "booster"...maybe I should have started another thread.

Ive seen a few old Chevy guys go with a dual master no booster drums all around on some early 50's Chevy's with no troubles...figured it might be an option here, but I have not tried it, and I have yet to hear the results of such a setup

Booster, no booster does bring up a interesting point. It always seems along with dual circuit a booster is a must. My 68 had a after market carburator and stock three on the tree when I bought it. It was learning curve on how to keep if from stalling climbing hills. If I had power brakes it could have been a problem keepng the vehicle from rolling backwards. Modern vehicles are designed to have the power brakes work long enough for the vehicle to stop. On these old vehicles your enging dies and one push on the pedal and the brakes get real hard to push with power brakes. Same can be said for power steering. With stock or close to stock size tires I've never felt the need for power brakes. Have no problem locking the brakes without a booster. Can't see any time a dual circuit brakes lines would not ba a good idea. Can't say the same for a booster.

That is interesting. Since I've installed the GEO BB I have yet to attach the BB to the vacuum port. The 1F didn't have a vacuum port. The breaks are slightly easier than stock but the disc brakes are way less maintenance. Water is also no longer a concern. I'm very happy with the set up and can't wait to attach the vacuum assist with the 2F.

This swap is not for everyone. In my case, I had long term plans that included bigger tires, extra weight, the family, and daily driving. I had also broken an axle while doing some mild off roading. The cost was about equal to 8 new wheel cylinders, i got stronger axle shafts, and the time spent on my back adjusting drums has seriously diminished!
