Occasionally at idle, in park or in gear, while stopped, my battery and brake warning lights will both come on. Always both lights at the same time and go out together. As soon as I just tap the gas they go off. My brake fluid is fine and no my parking brake is not on. This is a 62 so it is FI. I know most FI systems have the idle pre-set from the factory and are not adjustable. Is my idle a 50-100 rpm to low? Would a slipping belt cause this (although it's not sqeuling)? Any thoughts?

Mine does that when the truck isnt charging. Because yours goes off when you hit the gas I would think that is what you are experiencing. Check your belts, battery and connections...

Does your AT temp light come on as well? If it does you have the classic signs of a pending alternator failure. Do a search for FJ62 alternators - there are many alternatives other than having your existing unit remanufactured.

Your alternator is failing

My fj62 had the same symptons, it was the alternator,

I had mine rebuilt that was three years ago the guy I sold it to is still running it.

I would still check out the basics before replacing the alt and have it tested. You dont want to be chasing the problem by just blindly replacing things.

Might be the alt.
Meter the B+ terminal on the back. You should get 13.5+ at idle with all crap off. Then meter the + terminal on the batt. SHould be close to the same reading. There is a 10G or so wire that feeds the batt from the alt. There is a 6mm bolt/stud connection just upstream from the batt+. This connects the alt 10g wire to a fuseable link that goes to the batt+. Very common for this to corrode. If the batt+ voltage is low but the alt voltage is good look at that connection. meter upstream from the connection and if you get good voltage there (close to alt output) than replace the cable/fuseable link.

My diesel pickup does that currently at idle or the lights flash every three or four seconds. The alternator I'm told in the culprit due to the lack of charge. If you turn your motor off and keep the ignition in the accessories position do the lights come on? If so, then it is definantly a charging issue which points to the alternantor

I second or third that motion.

Thanks for the input! I would of never thought of the alternator, I guess that is why I'm on here. And yes, Ming, my AT temp light has come on also a couple times. I'll do some eliminating now.
