Boost compensator spring adjustment

Hi,

Am I rite in my understanding that by adjusting the spring tension you control the turbo boost? Can someone please tell me how many clicks should it be from the bottom factory settings?

I seemed to have played around with that and now I am only getting 7psi boost, I would like to get around 10psi as per company norm. I am running the stock ct26 turbo

the boost compensator is used to fine tune fuel delivery, it allows you to adjust the amount and timing of fuel delivery as the turbo goes from idle, to being on boost.

the amount of fuel being used will have an effect on the amount of boost produced, but adjusting the boost compensator won't directly change the amount of boost.

there is a good instructional video on youtube for this. I'll try and find it.

You need to figure out why you're getting smokey exhaust before you adjust fuel settings. adding more fuel will increase power IF there is enough air available to burn the fuel completely

If you are still getting smokey exhaust, and low power, something is wrong.

More fuel equals more combustion heat, equals more energy and more hot exhaust gas to drive the turbo. Add more fuel, the turbo should produce more boost (if the wastegate isn't preventing this), this adds more air and oxygen, so the extra fuel should burn cleanly. Unless you have stupid amounts of fuel being added.

a few things you should check before increasing fuel
check the air cleaner and air intake are clean and not blocked
check the waste gate is working correctly, opening at the correct pressure, opening fully, and closing fully
check the fuel injection timing is correct. if your timing is wrong, you wont get proper combustion, the engine wont produce the power it should, you'll get smokey exhaust and you potentially damage the engine

Hope you had a good New Year's Eve!
I have seen that video and adjusted the aneroid pin, I also played with the clicker wheel and now I don't know if it is at the rite setting and blocking from making 10psi boost.

I am also tuning my fuel on the road to avoid excessive dumping of fuel and smokey exhaust. By any chance would you know how many clicks from the bottom should the spring tentioner by set at?

I have a clean intake and filter I have replaced very recently

there is no set number of clicks. each pump is different, and there is no way of knowing what your pump is currently set at. It takes trial and error to set it.

Hi, i have a 12HT land cruiser that had intermittent stalling issues. Changed all filters, sedimentary, lift pump, dropped tank, cleaned, replaced suction piping and didn't have any issues for over 200 miles. Installed a new 3"exhaust and air to air intercooler, ran good. All of a sudden I was doing 65 and had a stall. Was not on the throttle hard at time of stall. It did start back up and get us back, but clearly you don't want random stalls when going 65mph. I figured with the intercooler and new exhaust that maybe the fuel needed just a pinch increased. I did 1/8 out(increase) turn on the front fuel screw(on boost fuel) , didn't notice much difference, then I did 1/8 turn in on the boost compensator ( off boost fuel) adjuster on the back of the pump. Tried to start and it starts for split second and stops. Got pretty worried but figured I went the wrong way and went 1/8 turn the other way. Same thing. Came back to where I was originally and same thing. Now I can't even start this engine. I tried adjusting both ways a million different locations and same thing. The boost compensator has a boost line to activate the diaphragm and I put some pressure on the line and at 4 psi I can see fuel and air coming from the 4 bolt cap clearance. I think either the diaphragm or the spring is bad inside but don't want to crack bolts on this pump since it was running for the most part, but clearly did have issues and I think it may have led me to this boost compensator. Let me know what you all think. Thanks a lot 1
