Following on from this post where I calculated out the operating points of a stock Toyota 2LT: What EGT is safe? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-egt-is-safe.1358250/post-15893041

I took the two operating points of max torque and max power, then made the numbers work.
Max torque is at 2400rpm.
Torque is 240Nm
VE is 0.9 (90% air fill).
Boost is 12psi
Wastegate is closed.
Heat loss (intercooling) is 10%.
Turbo compressor efficiency 70%
Fuelling is 70cc/1000 shots
Power is 60kw.
BSFC is 284 g/kwh (this is efficiency, lower is better).
A/F ratio is 14.7 (basically stoich, very hot and rich).
Airflow is 60 litres/sec, 123 CFM or 9.3 lb/min.

Max power is 3800rpm
Torque is 179Nm
VE is 0.8
Boost is 12psi
Wastegate is bypassing ~12% of exhaust flow.
Fuelling is 60cc/1000 shots
Power is 71.3kw
BSFC is 326g/kwh
A/F ratio is 14.9 (still hot and smokey).
Airflow is 80 litres/min, 167 CFM or 12.8 lb/min

Stock turbine looks to be about 14lb/min choke flow.

These numbers aren't going to be perfect, but they're the best anyone has to date. The results allow you to predict performance with better turbo, intercooling and fuelling.

Stock it is no wonder these crack heads. They run very hot and rich.

This is great, still learning for my 1-HDT. So to bring temps down….intercooler seems like a good idea. Would you have to add more fuel for cooler temp or subtract fuel for cooler temp?

Diesels run on the other side of the bell-curve to petrol engines so more air cools them down. Intercooler gets you more air in for the same boost. The 1HD being direct injection runs a lot leaner/cooler than the 2LT already.

Decided to run another test. See what would happen if you add an intercooler (60% effective) and up the boost to 15 to lean it out.

Result is about 20% more air-flow, a safe and clean 18:1 A/F ratio.
It hasn't shown any power or torque increase. But you will get a bump in efficiency and a few percent more power. Real bonus is you won't melt anything under sustained high load and you get more internal cooling that doesn't raise your water temps.
