Hi Guys,

I'd like to get some rust taken off of my 40 and am in search of a decent body work shop around town that won't be a complete ripoff. I went to one shop with a good rep and got an estimate of $1400 for the welding plus $600 for the paint. I'm sure it'd look amazing after that, but I don't need a show-room quality job. I just want it to look fine and to be rust-free. I've attached pix so that any of you w/body work experience might be able to tell me how high or accurate this quote is.
Thanks for any help!

Cheers,
Craig

I suspect your cost will creep up once they get into cutting. In my experience, and I have alot with respect to rust repair (check my ROTW thread in my sig line), there is more rust waiting to pop out right next to the areas that have broken out.
I would look along your rear inner wheel wells to see if the seams are bulging WHile your at it, check along the lower bed support where it wraps around the rear cornere of the wheel well.

$1400 for metal repair sounds fair as long as they ACTUALLY weld in new steel.

My .02, good luck either way.

That sounds like a get you in the door and jack up the price when they tear it all apart situation to me. It will cost more than that if they do a good job. Skilled labor for metal work is $$$ and so is paint and body. Sounds too cheap for DC prices.

There is a guy down here in NC that does great work

http://canuckscruisers.com/

He has a lot of pics on his page.

Also check with Ryan. Maybe he could work on this when he is not busy.

Love the truck man!

Thanks for the thoughts, guys! I took it to another shop today and it was fairly different. This guy wanted me to buy the inside/outside rocker kits that are available online (for just the driver's side) and he'd weld that in. On the passenger side and rear corner he'd just put new metal in. His fee, not including the $300 for rockers, was about $1800 not including paint. Seemed like a very professional shop with a good rep (at least on Angie's list).
Time to start saving some $$$.

Cheers,

Craig
