How much is a straight body worth? 95 white sunroof pesky roof rack no rust. I'm trying to work a deal on a 95 with a bad motor. I need lots of parts for my 80s so I'm thinking of buying it to part it out. I need to have an estimation of what a body is worth so I know how much I can offer. Anyone need a great body and want to make an offer on it before I buy it?

That's a really tough question.

Nothing but the body? Hmm.... $2500-3000 sounds fair. But may be a tad high, I guess it depends on how badly you need it.....

No it is complete with a bad motor. I see axles, trannies, transfers, etc... on Ebay and on LC websites so I have an idea of what those parts are worth if I would part it out. I have never seen a complete body for sale and just don't have a clue how much it would be worth or if there is even a market for it. I can store doors, etc... but the tub would be fairly large and I wouldn't have long term storage for it. If someone needed a complete body I'd sell it whole.

It would be hard to sell the body, especially being in Mtn Home, but you could sell just about everything else. Dillon would probably offer $5k for it. I could use some parts . . . :).

That is sort of the deal for me too. I could use some parts. It has lockers and mine don't, could shift the rear fullfloater from our 94 to the 91 and gain rear disc brakes. I need a mirror. I need a tie rod. I need a control arm. Other than that everything would be up for grabs. I just can't get a hold of the guy I need to talk to get the deal done. Hmmm! 80 series body garden planter? The neighbors will love me.

Not more than $2k. That is if you want to part it out and make some money to pay for the effort. Parting out sounds like fun but is a pain. It takes time to close the deals on the parts, then time to remove the parts, then time to clean and ship the parts and soon you are upside down time wise. Unless you do this all the time and have the time to do it. On the other hand, having a $2k parts truck is not su bad if you can use the parts.

why waste a 80

Why waste it? If I understand you correctly, it is a complete vehicle that needs a motor? How much is it? Why not just fix it?

Not a waste! LC parts are expensive. And this one wasn't nice enough to fix up. I offered $3500 and the used car manager got pissed off and hung up on me. I explained that if it had a good motor a 95 would be 9-11k. This one was pretty ratty inside. It looked like it was owned by a college student. I told him it would be $5k to put in a used motor. Which is the truth! $2500-3500 for a used motor and then labor. It would be right at that or even a bit more. Body was near perfect except the upper rear hatch. Seats were terrible even the 3rd row wasn't in good shape. I would have gone $4,000 maybe even $4200. It had lockers. My 94 does not. I would have swapped those over. Dropped my 94 fullfloating axle in my 91. I also needed some misc. stuff. I don't mind tearing down a Cruiser. I've parted several a 40, a 55, a BJ60, and a FJ60. Mostly just to build up parts stock for myself. Christo's right about the money. I probably made about 2 cents an hour but I gained experience in how things work and I picked up some parts for myself. He said that somebody from Washington was going to offer him a reasonable amount of money. I asked what reasonable was and he wouldn't tell me. Oh well! I guess I'll be in the parts buying business instead of the parts selling business.
