Anyone with a body shop rec? Need the gutters done and I've got some rust bubbles that have come up on the roof line.

I think @ErikinSC has a guy. He was going to post the information - I need to have some body work done on the 40 as well.

Jeremy, didn't you use fender mender in S'vile.
I've heard other good stuff about them, also.
The guy I had in Mt. P., retired

I had my Honda and the 80 painted at Maaco... Neither required any body work (well, the 80 had a dent pulled out of the C-Pillar). The 40 is going to need some rust cut out and some panels welded in; maybe Erik used Fender Mender?

John Bewersdorf on Hwy 78, Styling Ln. He is very close to Royle Rd. 843-509-0320 H'e next to the Transmission Tech shop.

He did my top, and I am very pleased. He does hot rods, custom work, muscle cars... and even referred to me as 'some one who knows Toyotas" (boy did I fool him!) HIs pricing is VERY FAIR !

Tell him I sent you.

Now, if you have deep pockets, and no time limit, I also know another guy in Summerville that that will gladly take all your money.....

I was having a rough time finding John's place... I know where Trans Tech is but I thought the only thing on Styling Ln was a hairstylist. Today I noticed that there is a garage behind the stylist. I'm guessing that's him?

Winner, winner Chicken dinner. Yes, take the skinny driveway to the back. John's mom has the salon up front; his shop is in the back.

So I drove the 40 over and met with John Bewersdorf. He is one heck of a nice guy! His cost is about 4x what Maaco wants to charge me, but I kind of expected it would be... What I did find odd is that he tried to talk me out of a paint job! As soon as I drove the 40 up he was like "Why in the world would you paint this? It's perfect the way it is! Folks LOVE original rust and patina! Forget the paint job and just go have fun in the hills with it." Sorry. Can't. Wife made it clear that the 40 does not venture in to the hills... And it's not original patina, it was rattle canned black... Still, he likes FJ40's and stated that he would like to own one someday.

Someone named Kyle, with a Land Cruiser, is ahead of me in line. Is that you @collk22 ?

Yeah, he's backed up until next year! Good for him, though, and good for me as I will need to save up a bit.

I need to ride up and have him look at my PIG.

Huh, I wonder how much prep work difference the two quotes varies by.

Are you having the inside painted, also? If so, let me know when the disassembly party starts !

I thought you liked your Patina?
I dont mind a patina to a point. I am more concerned with the spreading of rust. These Pigs EASILY compared to a 40. that is why there aren't many around because they have all rusty away, or to the point of no return and its too expensive to repair. So, given the salty air and humid here, I figure that the rust will really take off before long.

If you've got deep pockets, I'm sure that you could 'airbrush' some patina back onto the ole girl.... Might have to have that done in Orangeburg, SC where the kids still paint up the old classics...

I'm not really sure. He said he'd be removing all glass and that I have to supply all new gaskets and weatherstripping. Both are planning to weld new metal in rather than chemical treat and Bondo.

There's not much to disassemble on the interior... He is going to grind down the POR where it meets the hardtop and evaluate how it is holding up in the interior. If it's doing its thing properly, he'll spray over it with the new paint. If it needs to be retreated, he will remove it and redo the interior (this is still TBD).

Removing the glass is important for proper paint. My PO did not, and the rust was starting to show itself after rain / washing it. The rubber need replaced anyway, and OEM rubber was still available.

You'll be super happy when it's done and looks like a new old truck again.

Disassembling the interior was pretty easy - get lots of Zip lock bags and yellow stickies. Then order a JIS bolt kit so you can replace your hardware during re- assembly.

Removing the glass is a must for me so they can make those window channels like new. It's very important to the vehicle. The only problem I will have with my Pog is that the gaskets are no longer available. To have them made cost $2300 for complete window gasket kit. That also include rubber for everywhere else, i.e.: door handles, side mirrors, markers ect ect ect.

Wow ! That's a lot for rubber.... Well, either way you go, I hope that John is a good choice. When I was looking for shops, most auto body shops only wanted insurance work where they knew what their wage cost and the profit margins were going in. Finding an individual is always a gamble; I am very happy with what John did for me.
