Hey Guys!

Im Obviosly new to mud, and appreciate all the help you guys have given me?

I recently had a friend offer me some 35's 12.5/17 toyo muds for my 07 fj. Ive seen past posts saying that running a 12.5 inch wide tire you need to trim the body mounts in front...i hate to chop factory parts and was currious if anyone knows a way around this?

And is putting wheel spacers ok to avoid this chopping?

Thanks again!!!

Yes. You have to pay to play.

Wheel spacers are going to do nothing for you. If anything they can make it worse.

More OEM things to be concerned about when running 35's than trimming the body mount. Doing it should make the body mount stronger, if done right. You'll have to do "the chop" if you want to run most 12.50 tire so you might as well just get it done...

Ok, so does anyone have any pictures or info on the chop?

Im not sure how to go about doing this myself or getting the chop done at a shop?

Thx

Best to pay someone to do it, if you are not a good welder. I don't remember what people were quoting, but material cost is low and it should only take a couple hours of labor. I expect $250 would be average.

Take off the front mud flaps and you will see an oblong metal knob on the frame that protrudes into the rear of the wheel well. Use a sawzall to cut it off, as close to the frame behind it as possible. Dress it with a grinder or a file. Most people weld a small rectangular plate over the resulting hole to make it look finished, but it's not required to do so, it just keeps mud out of the inside of the frame and looks better. If you do weld cover plates on, you'll want to unbolt the body mount that is right next to it and jack the body up a little bit to get it out of the way so you don't melt the rubber.

Awsome help thx guys!!!

If anyone does happen to have pictures of the process...please send anything you have!

Many Thanks!!!

Here are some pics of my body mount chop. Not the prettiest out there but functional...

I cut mine with a 4" cutoff wheel, dressed it smooth with a 4" flap disc and painted it. I didn't feel the need to weld plate over the hole. I think we are all assuming that you know that you will have to ditch the front mudflaps when you do this modification.

Also keep in mind a lot is going to depend on how true to size and width the tires run. The pitbull rockers I have are incredibly wide with the sidebiters and have all kinds of interference with the wheel well near bump/lock (and thats even with a chopped out wheel well). Grabbers and MTRs on the other hand don't have the same large lugs on the side and they clear and allow full bump/lock and the wheel to still spin.
