So I'm messing with the 80 oil changes, and doing a bit of yard work while they drain. Sprinkling, edging etc. Then I'm moving the 93 around to change the other truck and I hear a grinding sound. Park it and go take a look. Hmm, one wheel rotates, then a catch and grinding sound. Not good.

Takes me a bit to get things opened up and I cannot believe it. Chunks of gear lying around the bottom of the casing. Grease holding bits here and there against the sides and several missing teeth. This thing has given me such great service I almost can't believe it.

So, I headed down to the farm and feed store to pick up another one. Those Nelson self driven sprinkler tractors simply don't last like they used to.......heh.

you can tell he's fed up with working on his 80, now he's breaking other types of machinery...

you didn't drive over the little thing, didja?

I don't think driving on it would actually do much. The body is 1/4"+ solid cast iron. It's amazing to me they spend so much on the exterior to do a 15" hollow casting and powder coat it, but save $1 and put cheap nylon gears in it. The thing generates enough torque to drag 150 feet of hose up hill and when the lawn cannot handle the grip, it tears into the grass and digs huge holes. I'm pretty rough on it and have had it snap and chew up the tough plastic toothed "tires" as well - replacing them a couple times.
