My new-to-me '96 FZJ80 has some meticlulously inserted reddish wood trim. Muy ugly. How do I get this crap off, and what is underneath. I would like grey / carbon / whatever in preferance to what is there.

Be careful around switches, some have damaged them with the heat gun.

Don't use any cleaner stronger than simple green on the plastic. Harsh chemicals will damage the plastic. If the plastic is discolored underneath the wood, heat with a heat gun and rub with clear silicon grease. Then wipe clean.

Mine came off ok and looked great underneath. I am not sure exactly why, but I put new wood back in. I am sure I will end up removing it again eventually.:)
