I’ve been taking samples and sending them to Blackstone on my new Tacoma to baseline and see how the level of wear metals goes down on a new engine with each oil change. I’ve not ever done samples on my LC and as my current rig had its first 170,000 miles done by others I figured I’d just send a sample in and see what they say. Here is the report.
The truck has 181,000 miles on it (the 80K reference is a typo) and the report pretty good. I do 5K changes but run Mobil 1 extended synthetic. I’ve always be pretty sure 10K changes would be OK and I suspect that is what the previous previous owners did. I’m still going to keep 5K changes as I want this thing to last forever and it’s simple enough to do. It’s good to know that if I need to run a few K more before a change I can. It’s also peace of mind knowing there is no fuel, coolant, or other indications of engine issues at 181K!
