My Land Cruiser has been sitting since august.
I changed it over from points to a pertronix unit, new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and installed a new header.

Before I put in the pertronix, the truck ran very well (the stock points had burned out and I was having a hell of a time finding replacements).

Since Putting in the pertronix, the truck seems to be running very rich. When I hit the accelerator, I get puffs of black smoke. that said, the truck is just sitting, and I run the truck up to operating temperature to keep everything lubed up and good to go. But the truck hasn't been driven or the engine been put under any load since August.

Would changing to pertronix cause this kind of issue? Could I have been over fueling but not getting good combustion because of the points?

thanks!

Could be a leak in one of your carborator gaskets. With it running spray some carb. cleaner all over the carborator and if it cuts out, you got a leak. Gasket leak can happen any time. I had that problem one time.

No, the ignition isn't going to have anything to do with this.
It is running rich. It is not a vacuum leak. Sitting for long periods of time isn't good for carbs.

Some possibilities:
Clogged air filter.
Choke stuck on.
Fuel level in bowl too high.
Plugged air metering vents in carb
Power valve stuck on (assuming it is a '76).

i had the same problems once on my quad-ra-jet...i had reversed the gasket at the base, and it needed to be over a port and i missed that detial...maybe a good place to start would be like the list before me...check everything you moved/adjusted first.

my first thought was timing, but i dont know how the set up on those pertronix units works...
