I have a 1976 BJ40 (B engine) that has been rebuilt over the last 10 years. Now it is running again, but with a few problems. When I push the accelerator hard it puffs out some really black smoke. I cannot say it did that 10 years ago, but I'm not sure. I did not touch the engine as such as it was running good. Except that I removed the injection pump and painted the block.
Else, the car is running fine.
Anyway, I have read a few threads on the matter, and it seems these points can be a problem:
  1. Bad vacuum diaphragm
  2. Edic locked in start position
  3. Bad injectors
  4. Adjust fuel setting
  5. Air filter clogged
  6. Bad pump timing?
What I think:
  1. I have tested by sucking in the hose. But I am not sure, could not decide.
  2. Edic is OK
  3. Could be.
  4. Is this really so? And where is the adjustment on my pump. See below
  5. Nope, new filter
  6. Could be as I remove the pump. But is this really a possibility.

Is there anything I have missed?
Before changing diaphragm which is a pita job, and overhauling injectors I would like to check fuel settings, but where is the adjustment on this pump (22100-56020) . I have not found anything like it here on Mud.
