Hey!

This is my first post but I've been a long time creeper. So for a few days my turbo has been making a more "metal-on-metal" contact sound and I also noticed some oil consumption, lower mpg and some blueish smoke out of the exhaust pre boost, so this all prompted me to check it out. Upon removing all the intake hoses I noticed the compressor turbine looks bent and chipped. I would like some advice on what to do here, Im not sure what needs to be pulled off and rebuilt or what needs to be replaced. I don't have any turbo experience but am prompt to learn and do most myself.
I also need to get a new intake hose or a similar replacement I could use. Mine is in the trash.

Thank you!

I'm not a turbo rebuilder myself, but it appears either something went into the intake or the bearing on the turbo are badly worn and allowed contact with the housing. It looks like there are wear marks on the housing as well so I'm leaning more towards bearing wear. usually when something goes into the turbo like debris, much worse stuff happens.

Have you grabbed the bolt and wiggled to check the play? It's due for a rebuild either way.

Personally I would take it to my favorite or best reviewed turbo company and have them rebuild it, but if you are wanting a challenge then get a rebuild kit and get to town.

That or just buy a new turbo. Apparently the CT26 from the Supra works since I believe it's hard/impossible to find an OEM 13bt CT26.

No Idea on the quality of this, but there are options

Oh and pictures of the Cruiser!

Pictures will come when she's feeling better! Cant show her off when she's down.

I have to check for wiggle. I only offer to rebuild myself because I want to learn (doesn't seem all that hard). It looks like ill be needing a new compressor wheel?? (can someone confirm that) and a rebuild kit. I'm looking at getting one from drift motion. Ill also get the turbo balanced at a reputable shop.

That bolt on looks good but thats a hard to swallow pill. Id probably be able to crowdfund the cost before I can save up that much mullah

Anyway thanks for replying! I didn't realize this would get such little insight!

I think not many people rebuild their own turbo. From what I've gathered from the 70 sections most people don't even know how to put it in 4wd. ;)
Honestly the rebuild kits aren't that bad for price and if you get a shop to balance it, you should be good to go provided there isn't any other damage to the housing.

Just saw this! I’m on the same ship of wanting to get my turbo rebuilt

I think the rebuilt kit I’m looking at is about $90. A balance is $30. I think if I do it myself I save upwards of $200. Not too bad

Ps: I’ve seen some YouTube videos, rebuilding doesn’t seem all that hard if you take your time
