So I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on refreshing my BJ74s suspension. I just can’t decide what route to go.

The truck is decently heavily modified but the suspension is getting old. 90% of the time lately I have a heavy drawer system in the back. The suspension was done by the PO, 2.5” Old Man Emu suspension (CS017RA and CS006F leafs) with extended anti inversion shackles, 2.5* pinion angle shims and 4* castor correction shims, u bolt flip kit.
The front axle was moved forward slightly to allow 35s, im currently running 12.5” wide 35s with 2” trail gear spacers.

It’s got quite a bit of sag in the rear and a few months ago I installed add-a-leafs all around to try prevent sag and my tires from rubbing on the body. Well… it still sags and rubs…

Ideally I’d want a 4” or so lift, but I don’t know of any options for a ‘74.

So, as far as I know I have 2 options:

could get new and heavier rated leafs and shocks - still unsure if I’d go OME again, another brand, or maybe a combo with different shocks.

OR

Go SOA, something I’ve been considering for a couple years now… some sprung over BJ74s I’ve seen look awesome, and others… well you get the point. Clearance and articulation are pretty important to me and I know an SOA would get me there.

Anyways I would love to hear what you have to say, suggestions, comments, anything.

Cheers

Where is it rubbing? Rear tires on the chassis during flex? Front tires during full lock?
I haven’t noticed any rubbing in the front at all actually,
in the rear though it used to rub on the frame and wheel well until I increased the spacers to 2”, now I’m pretty sure it just rubs on the lip of the wheel arch

Looks good.

If you want the best ride and performance, go with coils/link setup. You can dial your ride height perfect, have it flex better and ride better than leaf spring.

It’s definitely more work, but better performance for sure.

I'm guessing the rear lower lip? Not much you can do, lift wont help it will still rub on flex, in my case I cut off the lower rear quarters completely to run 35-36''s.

Inspiration for a Spring Over.... BJ74, Spring over on 'flat' stock springs. 35mm of fender trimming. Top pic is with 41" tires (12.50R20), Bottom pic is 39's (39.5x13.50)

As mentioned, SoA. You can make it perfect doing it in terms of driveline angles, ride height and comfort. If you cut & turn the front axle you can also achieve perfect caster.

Cheers
