I recently purchased a BJ74 from a reputable imported in canada. It has about 135K on it and is said to be fully winterized and in top mechanical shape. I am wondering if anyone has any maintenence tips or stuff I should know of going forward. Looking at doing a new suspension system, maybe OME, and tires. Any thoughts or ideas about anything would be much appreciated. thanks

Congrats on the new truck!

Post some pics...

The BJ74 is a great truck...

I really like the OME suspension and 33" BFG A/T

Make sure your Batteries are in tip top shape.
New fluids
Valves adjusted

PM me if you have any other questions.

As above; Make sure the batteries are up to par, as well coolent and fluids.
Also grease the drivetrain and steering knuckle. Se FAQ for 24v advice and general info. All filters can be had at NAPPA. Happy motoring.

I agree A/T tires are much better choices for most than M/T's. That's why I made the switch. You lose more on road where most people spend most of their time than you gain off road with M/T's under most circumstances.

Agreed on baselining your fluids, which can tell you a great deal. Then spend some time on this site and start making your mod list. Which seems to grow faster than you can get things done. You'll see what I mean after a few months....

2 sets of tires is good already mounted on rims, this way you don't tear up your AT off road and the mud tires last longer. also you can run a more serious mud tire for off roading fun and less breakage...

Start on the right foot and get some factory service manuals.
Hang back on spending on big dollar items unless you really need them.
Take some time to feel your way around and get the vehicle in the best possible mecahnical shape before tyres and new suspension.
OME are well known but there are other options which I believe are equal and maybe cheaper.

Post up some pics of you new cruiser;)

I recently purchased a BJ74 and I put on a set of Dick Cepek FC Radials they are 31" and are on my stock suspension. This past weekend here in Edmonton with our little snow storm they were great.

Thanks so much for all of the imput. I will post some pics as soon as I pick up the truck and figure out how. Nice to see some local boys out there with the same great taste in trucks. Any of you get them off Dan at 4 wheel? Also looking for some goods spots to hit up close to town, know any? We usually head out for a couple hours at a time after work and stuff and would like to find some more places to wheel. thanks again

I got mine from Dan about 2 months ago. Is that where you got yours? If it is was it the grey BJ74 with cable lockers?

I like your choice of hockey teams. Go Oil!

Don't forget to pick up a lower rad hose heater and a couple of battery blankets... Plus a new fuel filter, oil change etc... But you gotta get the cold weather gear ASAP! Congats on the new truck!!!

Yes mine is the gray one from Dan with the cable lockers. He has assured me that the truck is winter ready but I am thinking about a few other add ons for the cold. Any luck with anything in perticular?
