I met Wes in Co.
That rig is super nice...
Too bad you guys have to cut your adventure short.
Good luck with the sale.
I'll email yah if I can come up with the $$

Just checked the EPA website, and the rules are that the vehicle must be 21 years or older...so it can be registered in the US. Last I looked, the timeframe was 25 years. Good news for someone with the $$ to pick up this rig.

1. Vehicles 21 Years Old Or Older
If the vehicle is at least 21 years old, there are no EPA compliance requirements upon importation. The age of the vehicle is determined by subtracting the calendar year of manufacture from the calendar year of importation. If the calendar year of manufacture is unavailable, the importer may substitute the model year or year of first registration. For instance, to qualify in 2001, the vehicle must have been manufactured in 1980 or earlier. The vehicle must be in its original unmodified configuration. Vehicles at least 21 years old with replacement engines are not eligible for thisexemption unless they contain equivalent or newer EPA certified engines.

don't forget the DOT 25-year rule

Unfortunately the DOT requires vehicles to be 25 years old. Hence, it would have to be a 1985 vehicle to bring in and register without extra costs...

So here it is....

I do not have any photos of the inside of the car as it is currently packed with all our gear, however it is in good condition. When we have a chance we will unpack it and get some pictures. Let us know if you are interested and want any specific photos.

As for importing the car into the the U.S. it is a little unclear. We personal can import it into the states and get it registered here but only for 1 year and we are not allowed to sell it because we are not permanent residents. As of such we need to sell the Land Cruiser in Canada and will deliver it there. We spoke with Customs about importing it if we were a resident and it looks as though you can import it into the U.S. before it is 25 years old however you need to get a letter from Toyota stating that it meets U.S. D.O.T safety standards.

...but it was never tested, so I find it pretty hard to believe you could ever get such a document. Bummer too. Nice rig.

You gotta love the US Govern"mental" agencies...one says 21 years, the other 25. Brilliant show of bureaucratic BS. As if a vehicle magically becomes more "safe" after it is 25 years old. Rant over.

If I had the cash I would have my sister buy it in Ontario where she lives, and bring it back to the US in a few years.

Good luck with the sale, as it looks like a really nice setup.

Why wait a few years? :hillbilly:

You and your sister can drive it across the border and you can buy her ticket back to Ontario. You can get the vehicle registered in the US after it's 25 years old.

You can probably even drive around in it as long as you don't get pulled over with the Canadian plates. :hillbilly:

ANYWAY, good luck with the sale, LiveLifeOffRoad!
