My p.s. idler pulley bearing is going out. I searched the 70 forum and found a NAPA # for a bj74 p.s. idler pulley bearing but I have a 1987 BJ70. Anyone know if it's the same bearing?

And by chance does anyone know if the a/c idler pulley on the N. American FJ60s would fit?
TIA

Have you tried looking on the DIY site?
Is there a separate idler pulley for the ps and ac?

I did use that site to compare fj60 v bj70, but it didn't occur to me to compare to the 74.

And after your reminder it appears the 74 and 70 share the same idler pulley. So I'm off to the parts store for a new bearing.

Thanks

I saw they were same ,but you said PS idler and I was wondering if they had a separate idler for the ps belt and a/c belt:D

See post #31 of this thread for an alternative

Unfortuneatly I had already bought a Nachi 6301-2zj bearing from NAPA and pressed it into the pulley and re-installed it before reading that thread. Now I wish I had picked up a SBC instead and just be done with the potential for another squealing pulley bearing in only a couple more decades of driving. :grinpimp:

sometimes a few drops of oil helps keep down the sqeal. I have gone through 2 in 2 years. It only sqeals when I first turn on the AC.

I replaced my idler pulley bearing today. Took the old bearing to the local bearing shop and it was cross referenced to a F.A.G. 6302.2RSR.C3 bearing. Cost $15. It is not marked as to where it is made but I am assuming by the companies name it's not North American.

Most idler pulley bearings are replaceable... the 6302-2RSJ is a common one.

There are idler pulleys available at Napa that fit some models of Cruiser (1HZ, 1HDT etc.).

Try and get quality bearings as there are some really cheap bearings available these days that won't last very long.
