Hi guys,

I am a new owner of an BJ70 from 1987. I want to install a radio but can't find any connectors for it. I found 3 connectors where I have no clue where it needs to go. Maybe you guys can help me out. I have:

5 pole connector
-Black / White stripe (No signal)
-Black / Yellow stripe (24V ACC ON)
-Black (No signal)
-Brown or Orange (0ohm to ground)
-Green (0ohm to ground)

2 pole connector
-Red / White stripe (24V Permanent)
-Blue / Yellow stripe (No signal)

Light bulb holder
-Green / Red stripe (Goes on 3sec. after turn ACC ON)
-White / Black stripe

Also it looks like there are no wires for speakers

Hi
I have a 1985 BJ73.
Do you have manuals for your truck? If not: Shoot me a PM. I have them.
The workshop manual has the wiring diagrams to help diagnose whst you are looking at.
To the matter: I'm not aware of our trucks having any pre setup for a radio.
Did you notice any speakers?
My truck came with a custom radio installation from the PO.
He grabbed 24V from the ciglighter, which gets power from ignition level 1 already, when all engine functions are still off (those turn on only at ignition level 2). 24V permanent for memory straight from an aux fusebox at the battery.
Speakers in the rear side panels and dash custom. It's 24V, so you need a respective truck radio or run step down converters to 12V. I had that for a while but was not happy with the permanent load those draw. Switched to a 24V radio.
Good Luck Ralf

Thanks mate,

I am living close to Schagen Noord Holland.

The idea is to re wire all the cables. i allready ordered a stepdown converter with REM, so your radio memory stays when switching engine off. i think i'm going to use these connectors for powersupply but i wanna now where they are originally used for.

I have some manuals, and also a wiringdiagram. unfortunatly there are no connectors drawn in and i can't find any matching cables. Maybe it helps if i can get your manual. Or someone knows where the connectors are for.

Here a foto of the beast

The light that turns on for 3 sec after "ACC ON" sounds like a glow timer. Maybe an aftermarket glow plug relay has been installed.

Sounds like you'll have to run your own radio cables...

Yes i think so too. Its located at the Glow Light in the dash aswell, and the Glow light is now wired with non stock wires.

So two ''strange'' connectors to go;)

White with black stripe is often a Ground.
Lots of threads here about radio installs... maybe look through them to find images of your mystery connectors.

Black with white tracer is the Toyota ground.

Hello,

The radio connector has 10 pins. Speaker connectors have two pins; one of the speaker wires is pink if I remember correctly.
