Good day! So as many of you may know I've been on an elusive search for a left handed Troopy. Missed one a year ago that I should have pulled the fuse on. The recent one that was on the 45 thread had an indecisive owner who became decisive and took it off the market. I'm looking for a a vehicle that's retro and will be able to do a little expeditioning to various spots in both of our great countries. my thoughts have switched to these vehicles. They seem more readily available. Equally prone to rust but otherwise durable and practice machines. With more of them around I'm thinking parts will be easier to find as well. From allow the great information on here from the Mudder community a 60 that is newer than 1983 is a must. A 3B has less umph but more bullet proof than the 2f. As usual prices are all over the map. A pristine rig seems to fetch up to 15k with a solid 60 averaging anywhere from 6-10k. Donors' 1,000 or less. Otherwise any suggestions?

Found this near me. The guy said he's been restoring since 94! Health issues dragged it on and also has made it hard to drive hence the sale.

No not yet. The concern I have other than the price is that it has literally sat since 1994 and not inside from what I can tell. Not good for any vehicle. The motor may or may not have been rebuilt. I may take a peek at it this week. I'm looking for something in better condition and willing to pay a slight premium for that.

The tires are new, since the stickers are still on. Looks nice from the pictures. Bumpers are customs made. For that kind of price, you should check the frame for any rust issue, the interior should be complete and in great shape. You'll need to drive it to know if it's got any issue on the mechanical part.

Looks clean under the hood. He said the engine was not rebuilt? It sure looks like it? Detailed anyway. What did your family member have to say?

He said he replaced a lot of the rust with continuous weld stainless. I have a buddy who did something similar and took all precautions to stay ahead of the rust game. The rust came back within six months due tot he 60s design of the metal folding over in window openings etc. not at all like a 40 where you can see it and either replace it or fix it right.

I asked him and he was fairly abrupt and said it had the 300 some odd Kms and he's tired of talking about it as I should just come and see it.

My biggest concerns with this rig is that it has sat since '94 and it doesn't look like it was inside. Secondly he has been very detailed with the body work done. He says it's continuously welded stainless steel replacement which is good.

This are the areas that were welded:
> bottom all 4 doors, 12 inches high
> bottom tailgate, 8inches high
> bottom of rear top frame glass door
> the area where tailgate's hinges are
> rear quarter panels, from bottom to about windows
> doors panels
> bottom of a legs room, both sides
> rear above wheels
> Frame is in an excellent condition. It was sandblasted, repainted and covered with grease and oil.

All well and fine however anyone who knows these tricks know that if it was not protected with Krown or something from the get go the rust will probably come back. From all the work it sounds like it was a rust bucket and it should not have even been considered for repair?

That's why I think the price is too high for a non-rebuild engine, that didn't run for 15 years. The rear suspension looks like sagging a bit and who knows what you'll have to put in and how much too make it a reliable truck, but the body looks nice. I'll say go see others LC for sale locally (whatever condition they are) then go see this one, you may then compare the added-value of this one.

He's right, you can't tell much from pictures. Go see it, smell it, hear it, feel it — and drive it! You'll know very quickly whether it's any good. Also, if it's sat outside for that long and isn't rusting - that's a good sign.

Personally 5-6k the body has major work on it. The worry would be that as soon as you start using it and it experiences a winter it will start bubbling up. The colour is not an OEM colour is that's important. Otherwise the work the fellow did seems quality but again it has literally say for years...and not in doors in his driveway.

i can promise a much nicer completely restored one for right at 10

We do high end builds and exotics so we are no stranger to foreign or domestic builds. The one I have on here(86 rare chance to own a one owner is real close to perfect with exception of cosmetics and you could have complete freedom if you wanted to change color or interior)
In the price range I would say this is a helluva deal for one with all manuals window sticker original title and recods at the local toyota store..really a nice piece and a chance to own a one of a kind original

Anyway just thought it was strange to see a 911 as a avatar
cool but strange in the land of cruisers:bang:
