I'm interested in installing a power steering set-up on my 81 BJ42 with the 3B diesel. I've located a toyota power steering pump, which was removed from a 2LT diesel engine. Will this pump adapt to the 3B engine without a huge amount of modification? I was thinking of installing a mini truck ps steering box also. Will this pump and box work OK together?
Thanks for your responses...... If there are any other ideas for installing power steering on the 3B, let me know! I've been wanting to do this modification for a long time, and want to do it right.

The Toyota method is a good way but if I were to do it, I would go Sagninaw style powersteering, which is the way most people retrofit power steering to any 40 series. I am not 100% sure it will go as smoothly with a BJ42 as it would with a FJ40, but this is the best method... I would advise starting to read about it. There are some great writeups, and CruiserOutfitters.com sells a great kit...

Greetings....if you have a pump ( i also have one) i have all the other OEM parts you will need for your PS conversion (with the 3B) except the box and the lines...

$695.00 plus the ride...........

Best Regards

identify steering item, what is it?

hi all, still have to get to know my cruiser day by day... just discovered this "thing" on my cruiser..:D

how is it called, what does it do?

That is the center arm. it basically serves as a pivot for the front/rear motion of the steering box to be converted to side to side movement. It also is the attachment point for the steering dampener. If you get a lift and don't shim, you will get to know this part very well as it takes the brunt of the wear from bigger tires, or misadjusted alignment.

They are rebuildable.
