OMG a 3B in that? that must be miserable....

BTW i had a battery that failed, it only was running 9-10 volts. So i'll wait for the smaller pulley.

Thanks Everyone for the ideas and input on the issue--here's some clarification and answers to your questions:
-Yes, the alt. belt is tight enough--probably a bit tighter than book spec. to allow for wear.
-Got the alt. rebuilt since I'm going through the rig to make sure all is in top shape for 'adventures' or daily driving--had the alt. and starter both rebuilt. The alt. had new bearings, brushes, plus the other electrical parts replaced--also had it rewound for doubling the amp output--an idea I got from an old write-up from STONE in BC, Canada--so that the winch and batteries have more than enough power--bottom line: I would rather go through a rig on my schedule than break down somewhere and an empty wallet--.
--Interesting to see most of you have a 1,000 RPM or so 'kick-on' for for the alternator--I used to have that as well before doubling the AMPS rating--I wonder if somehow that doubled the RPM needed to excite the field?..anyone an electrician or know enough about ALT/Auot electronics to know how these work..I'm finding I need to 'help' the alt shop find the solutions--pumping the throttle up to 2,200 RPM is too high--more like the old fashioned generator systems...

It's so much work to pull the alt (below the AC compressor), then pull the vacuum pump before taking it in to the shop for them to work on--lose about a week of drive time.

Any detailed answers I can pass onto the local alt shop would be great!!
