What type of oil did you use for transfer case and diffs?

If you are searching on the net, you will do better searching for the components rather than a BJ74. Look for H55f or A442 or 13BT etc. Or search for other 7* series that were produced in much greater numbers and share many components and thus use the same fluids.

And this question has been answered dozens of times on MUD.

From memory Toyota specs a 90w gear oil. I'd put an 80w90 in it and be done

I've long given up on anything fancy in anything but the H55F. GOWM (good ol' Wal Mart) 80-90 in the 5 gallon pail. Change it often.

If it's clean oil of close to the correct grade, she's doing better than many other cruisers around the world😂

Manual T-case: API GL4 or GL5 SAE90, non-hypoid.
Automatic: ATF Dexron II (which rare now. No idea whether Dexron III would also work)
Dexron II also goes in the steering servo pump
Diff: API GL5 hypoid SAE 90 (good to -18°C, use SAE 80W-90 below). Caution on rear axle if it is a limited slip. Needs special oil then ( usually same spec extended by 'LS')
