My auto tranny got some water in her 2 years ago, although thoroughly flushed she has been dying a slow death. The internal filter has been cleaned and replaced twice in 2 years, the symptom is the wining sound from the auto and shift points change, with lock up at 80 instead of 60. After changing fluid and cleaning filter, she is good for another 30 to 50 K KM. But with amount of clutch material in the filter, this transmission is definitely crawling towards the grave or an expensive rebuild.
So i am exploring my options and anyone's experience in this are would be appreciated. I am not adverse to a 5 speed as I do a lot of HWY, but at 52 I have become somewhat used to the ease of an auto, especially being a RHD and all.
Will a H55 from a HJ 60 62 etc fit a BJ,? would the transfer case from the auto fit the H55? I believe not. I would need a bell housing Clutch, rear motor mount, shifter lever assy, pedal tray and pedal, clutch booster etc. All in all a fairly big project.
So my other option is to rebuild, but I have read so may horror story's of the A440 transmission rebuilds becoming nightmares by unqualified shops in North America.
Th last option is to swap it with another used transmission but always a wildcard there, what shape is that in, also, what can we substituted in, ????
Thanks for any help folks

No one has any experience converting these to an H55 5 speed? I am sure someone has done it.

would the transfer case from the auto fit the H55
Yes ,I believe so if the years are the same. You can use any H55F BUT ,you will need to change the input shaft to suit a B engine
Did you price a rebuilt trans from Wholesale Automatic Transmission in Melbourne? I think this will be the cheapest and easiest option in the long run,you dont even need a core. They also have performance mods for the tranny.
To do the manual swap , I think you need the rare as hens teeth RHD BJ74 clutch master cyl. I maybe wrong but I think its rotated to clear the turbo.

My mate is parting out a BJ73, if your interested let me know ASAP, could get you everything except a gearbo, would be not much $$$ except for freight. I have a gearbox which I am considering selling, complete with transfer and bell housing, or find one elsewhere.

Been a few months since your post @Hulsty, but I'm wondering if your mate might still have a lot of these pieces available from that BJ73...? I'm in the States so I don't think I'd care to freight over the gearbox or case, but perhaps all the other bits and pieces if still available. Let me know!

Thanks!
