I have recently imported a 1980 - BJ 44 series into Botswana, we are in the process of rebuilding and would like to upgrade the suspension. After exhausting all options in our country for suspension we would like to import the suspension from the States as it seems it is our only option. We have been in touch with Hell Creek but they not sure their suspension would fit our series. We have been told that the suspension for the FJ45 is the same as a BJ44. So to cut a long story short I am looking for a suspension supplier in the States who has suspension for a BJ44. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet would be Old Man Emu.

Yeah we have Old Man Emu here, but because the BJ44 is such a rare model they don't think there is a OME type that will fit. The BJ44 has a mid wheel base.

Bolt center to bolt center at the bushings this should be with the springs removed so they are sitting without any loads on them.
A measurement of the arc depth at center would help if you have to have them customed made were you are there is no aftermarket spring for the 44 stock height or lifted you have to use springs from another series like the 47 or 45

Post up some pics of the 44 we dont get to see many of them give us some details on it too like origin, engine, any mods,etc...

BJ-44's use half a 45 suspension and half a suspension spring custom to itself.

Old Man Emu and traditional fj-40 stuff WILL NOT FIT>

Pure FJ-45 WILL NOT FIT.

I am still looking for my BJ-44 and have not yet found anything "off the shelf".

Sorry for the bad news.

parabolic or Hyestee suspension are not making kits for 40series at the moment we have inquired. Apparently they have been having some problems. We are trying to do a group import of suspension with another member of our club. He is going to go with the HellCreek.

Is there no member that has had leafs custom made for his or her 44. If so is it not possible for us to contact those people and get them to replicate the springs. We can get some custom made ones locally but the quality will never be as good as ones from the states. Also the cost will be far more. Out idea to capitialize on the group import will save a ton of cash. Also at least we can also group a few more spares that we need on the pallet.

Bump anyone PLEASE help.

would love to post pics of the vehicle. where can i find instruction on how to do it.

Breckenridgecruiser has had Alcans made for his. Maybe he will chime in. Check 'em out, they look really nice. I would love to do mine but the purchase of my Duramax has set back all mods/upgrades to my 44.

Good tip- thanks! I'll be looking into a set for mine

BJ44 Shocks

Good news. We have ordered out 3inch lift kit form ALCAN springs.

We are now looking for suitable shocks.
I was recommended bilstein by ALCAN but i have since been told that Monotube is not a good idea offroad. So i am now wanting to change.

What shocks can i get for this vehicle. I would like to go for Old Man Emu just because i can at least get replacement locally.

Does anyone know if the size of the shocks differ between a 40 or a 45.

Old man emu have shocks for 45s and 40s they are the same size the only difference if the weight factor.

Does anyone know if a 45 shock will fit in a 44.

Old man emu says though that their shocks suit a 2 - 2.5inch lift. So i may rather go for a 2 inch lift instead. Unless some else has a better suggesting.

Breckenridge Cruiser - What shocks did you put into your 4inch lift?
