Howdy diesel professionals. I recently changed the fuel filter and rebuilt my bj-42 starter but the dang thing is hard to start. I opened up the filter outlet and manually pumped the twist pump on the injection pump but ever time I pump diesel spills out of the injection pump? I also cracked all of the injectors and finally did get it to start. Drove it around the block and parked it. Now it will not start again? any suggestions. When you twist open the injectors do you crank it until diesel spits out and then close them in order from front to back? any help apprecieted. Thanks in advance!

This happened to me when I changed my filter when I first got my BJ42--if you have fuel spilling out of the primer pump onto the injector pump then the primer pump itself is bad and needs to be replaced. I did a search on this and one post said that primer pumps can leak to the point of putting air in the system. I would replace the primer pump, go through the standard bleed procedure, and see what happens. In any case, a cheap part for the peace of mind...

BTW, I was able to get the air out of my system by just cranking the engine.... of course, I just had to replace the contacts in my starter too....

go to your nearest nippondenso diesel dealer, much cheaper than 'ota! remove and have them rebuild it for you, not very expensive at all!!!!
