ive seem these birfield eliminator kits. thoughts on them? people are always talking about breaking them and having beefed up units

This is only my speculation, as I've not installed or ran a BEK.
If yer gonna throw some money at the problem (real or perceived) I'd make a call the Mr. Long...Bobby Long that is.
Aren't those kits built around D-44 stuff?

yeah i think they built around the dana 44 set up.

i hear alot about breaking birfields so why not just get rid of them altogether and it would seem replacing u-joints would be easier then birfields. just wonderin

They are only moderateley stronger than stock, go with longfields, much better. As far as being easier to change, you still have to get into the knuckle and id rather just throw a new birf in instead of messing with c-clips and crap.

I've installed a couple of the eliminator kits and it all worked out well, but the longs would be the way to go.......

go with longs. Replacement parts for the BEK's are hard to get as well. You dont need to worry about breaking birfs unless you are driving crazy stupid or with tires LARGER than 33's. Unless you have a front locker.

thats the thing. i already picked up a set of 35s and im preping my SOA and i want to do a selectable locker in front. i dont have too much experience with toyota axles, ive only oned one other toyota and it was a 79 sr5 4x4. do these HD birfields have a guarantee?

Longfields have a lifetime warranty. I have heard of a few rare instances where the outer splines twisted and that was not covered but I cant remember. Bobby is a great guy and will do all he can for you. Give him a call and talk with him.

If you are doing selectible locker regear, etc I woudl go ahead and do longs while you were in there. IF you can afford it. And if you do the work yourself you should be good if you break a birf so you will know what you need to do.
