So I have talked to many of you in the past few months and it seems that we are all in need of front axle rebuilds. For me, with a baby coming in the spring, sooner than later is better for me. What a great way to kick off the spring, right? I for one would love to tackle this with at least one other person (the more the merrier as misery loves company). I plan to buy the complete kit from CDan and also throw on new front rotors and go to 100 series pads. I might also go ahead and change over to SS brakelines while I have her apart. I just want to get it done and not have to worry about it for a while. I know this is a very long job and requires space (which my condo has none of) and beer.

Anyone want to join me before April?

When and where is good for you?

I assume that if someone can provide space, everyone else could provide the food and beer:D .

What do you guys think?

I am interested in that also

I would like to join you also, depending on your schedule. I have been spending too many weekends lately going to swim meets and basketball games with my daughters.

I am going to get the kits from Dan in the next few days. How long do you think we need to plan for it?

It's in my plans for sometime this year smitty, but not by spring. Plan on doing exactly what you are doing - birf job, new rotors and 100 series pads. Am waiting for the current set of brake pads to wear out and I just put them on a couple thousand miles ago, so I've got at least until the end of summer or into fall.

Am going to upgrade to SS brake lines at my next major service. Brake fluid is looking VERY crappy right now. This service is in about 3K miles.

if you guys need a shade tree mechanic to supervise i could fill that roll. I have been in to 80's front ends befor and the 40's more then a few time( if i could just stop breaking birfs)

Whats the price on the full kit?

I left a msg. for CDan (end of month is a very busy time for him) told him no rush but I was looking for some quotes. Will post up when he gets back to me with the quotes. I asked for the rebuild kit that he puts together and also front rotors and 100 series brake pads. Slee SS lines are here.

Are you talking for just the front end or for pads and rotors too?

Front end with new Koyos runs about $200 or so. Add pads and rotors and you're up to about $500.

ps: I could easily fly out to drink beer, hand out tools and get you all paper towels. I've done too many of these now....they are starting to hurt my back!

We would love to have you! My offer still stands to pick you up at LAX. I still live 4 exits from there.

Wow. A MUD celebrity coming down to LA!
Im coming by then with a camera to capture the event (and help of course). Seriously. Itll help me out when I do mine.

Probably not ready to do mine yet as I'll snowball it into gears and perhaps Longfields as well. I'm pretty far away but I work on my rig almost every weekend. If worse comes to worse, I could probably swing a weekend at my shop for you guys, I have alot of tools:D

Hey a field trip!! This is getting good. Out of town guests (legends) and a field trip all in one. This could get exciting. I will wait a week or so and get all the info.: quotes, how many interested, etc. and then throw some dates out there to see if we can go ahead and get something on the books.

I wish I could remember Smit. Dan and I just discussed the pricing on all of that about a month ago. $4-500 is in the ball park for everything including rotors and 100 series pads.

I've already got the video but what could be better than watching all of you get greasy and cussing while I build my rear storage (and learn how to do mine when the time comes):D  :D

Still eating left over adobada from Saturday

I just did new rotors/pads/bearings/seals on the front of my rig. With labor i was at about $500 bucks (i didnt have the time to do it myself). Make sure you get all the parts from CDAN, i would have saved at least a $100 if i didn't need the parts right away (last minute).

I would love to tear down the birfs and change the diff fluid on my rig ... but dont know if i'll be available. Keep me posted.

Will be doing mine soon too as my knuckles are filled with soup and my front rotors are warped all to hell. Just can't seem to wear out the pads fast enough. Can't guarantee when I will have the funds but if the timing works out.

Gotta do mine also. I've got differential fluid coming out the bottom of the DS knuckle.

Plus, on a previous trip A-B, something tore up my DS pads. The pads, in turn, torn up the rotor. So I want to do the new rotors, 100 series pads as well.

Add one more to the list.... the black one is starting to make some weird noise, will have to pull apart soon.... and see whats up...

SOOOOOOOO......anyone stil interested? With a baby in my very near future, I need to get on the ball with this. I have my kit from Dan in hand. The full kit (no bearings) with new rotors and 100 series pads ran me $438.91:eek: with shipping. The kit without rotors and pads looks to be $228.66 (rotors were $77.02 each, while 100 series pad kit was $56.21). Considering that this is a total front end rebuild, I am very thankful for Dan and all the $ he saves us to go with OEM. All I need now is the fluids/grease. I am going to run Redline in the diff. but don't know what other grease I need. I guess I could search :crybaby:  Who wants to join me one weekend? Sundays are best for me. The 1st and 8th of April would be ideal as the Mrs. is due shortly there after. Any more idea of a location? I don't mind going and buying all the fluids together for whoever wants to do this and they could pay me back when we get together.

This is job that should be completed in a single day, right?

Have you watched the DVD yet? I don't need to do mine yet and I'm going to regear at the same time so I'm out. If you read the post in FAQ, they break it down into one or two days depending on your speed/urgency IIRC
