I am selling my low-mileage 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser, which I originally bought as an overland project vehicle and turned into a restoration. Over the two-and-a-half years I have owned it, I have put countless hours into addressing any cosmetic issues or mechanical foibles it had to make it as solid and dependable as I could. The end product looks fantastic and feels tight as a drum in every respect, as it should for a Land Cruiser with only 158k miles on it. In full transparency, this truck had some rust problems to the front fenders, rocker panels, and rear quarters that were addressed by myself and friends who do body work for a living. The lower third of the truck was professionally repainted to match and blends very well, and includes a tougher, semi-truck grade clear coat that will protect this rust-prone area. I personally addressed any corrosion on the frame, rear axle, and front suspension while the truck was apart and able to be fully serviced. There were no areas of major concern or extreme deterioration. All rust was removed, both internally and externally, and a rust converter was applied to stop any future issues. Afterwards, the frame received several coats of tractor implement paint to keep future issues at bay.
With the truck disassembled, I saw to preventative maintenance and general upkeep, including bushings, ball joints, bearings, brake work, filters, and fluid changes. This truck mechanically is perfect, with no issues, noises, or strange behavior whatsoever. All of the fluids came out exceptionally clean, showing this truck was very well taken care of before I came to be in possession of it. As things were already apart, I replaced the suspension with Old Man Emu shocks, springs, and torsion bars, and added some protective skid plates, including the transfer/transmission plate I modeled after the Trail Tailor “Creeper” skid plate. I also added front and rear bumpers, as well as the Rhino Rack roof bars and awning. I had planned on using a roof box but plans changed. ARB front and Dobinson’s rear bumpers replaced the stock items and are fully wired to operate with the brake, reverse, marker, and signal lights. I also replaced all of these bulbs recently. Since all of these installs, the truck has had less than 250 miles put on it, so it is fresh and ready to be broken in for a new owner. The only thing left to do is get it aligned, which I can do or the new owner can.
Though it’s in great shape now, it’s not totally perfect. There are three spots of rust that I did not address, though all of them are on easily replaceable or detachable panels: the rear hatch, the driver’s rear door, and the hood. All of those spots are quite localized and not likely to affect any other panels. The interior does have some stains and scuffs from the previous owner, though almost all of them are located in places that aren’t visible. The ones that are visible are in the rear cargo area. My original intention here was to add a drawer system, so I never messed with or worried about it.
Every switch and function works, other than the backup camera, which was removed due to the rear bumper being in the way (can easily be added back in), and the electric radio antenna, which was removed and shortened to a stubby radio antenna to accommodate the snorkel install.
The truck will come with a box of some spare parts I had stored up as travel spares or things I hadn’t addressed, including a belt, radiator hoses, some anchor points for the Raingler net, a small amount of uncatalyzed touchup paint (which includes the color code if additional work needs to be done later), a cabin filter, and a few other things.
Since this truck was apart for a couple of years, I ended up purchasing a 2011 Land Cruiser, which is the reason for my parting with this truck that I have spent so much time and effort on. Below I’ve listed the modifications, maintenance items, and repair work that has been done on the truck. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
