lol yea, no im not spending 15G for my engine :)

ill have 5-7 after im done. i do all my own machining at a race shop that i know. if anyone needs dyno time or engines built hes the man.

yeah that's a bit much for me too but it sure does make for a great picture... that's about it..

ha ha :censor::censor::censor::D:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

i think a 60 will hold up better than a 9 inch, plus be cheaper, no?

No. :flipoff2:

The biggest difference lies in the third pinion support on the 9". There are several other differences too, but that it the biggest. Without it, the pinion deflects off the ring gear, and you break teeth.

You're talking about building a 700-900hp big block, cheap went out the window a long time ago, brother. Doesn't matter if the engine was free, the rest of the driveline must be able to handle it. Not to mention the chassis that will need to be built to handle it, suspension to get the power down, etc...

well its going in my landcruiser, and i just threw some pics on my cage going in it, so i think that the chassis will be able to hold it.

turbo 400 trans

STAK or atlas case (more than likley)

front end is cruisah, but with PIG shafts and longfields.

rear end is stock and going to break :)

i have a dana 60, i DONT have another 9 inch.

i have broken my 9 inch thats in my ford truck 3 seperate occasions now

2 r&p
1 carrier
2 mini spools
countless ujoints

if you want big GM cubes... go "BBB" Buick 430 or the mighty 455, they weigh a little more than a chev 350, but make HUGE torque, much more than a your typical 454.
and a require a little less cooling. ;)

imo

meh. i have this callies dragon slayer crank just dying to go into something.

Callies cranks are sick, i saw one in person the other day and they real nice peices.

Do you really need that for a wheeling truck though?

why not :grinpimp:

we gots mud down here 'son thats bookoo deep..... swallow 18 wheelers 'dang 'ole dang'

If you want power and something reliable, the Big Block Chevy is the choice. An aluminum radiator will take care of your cooling issues in 90% of the cases. You could go with some of the other GM big blocks, but only if you have a light foot. I know some of the small block guys may complain, but there is NO replacement for cubic inches! I have had a BBC in for over 15 years.
(you can even get the headers inside the frame, but you will have to make them.)

Good Luck; John

From those pics, that motor isn't really much wider than my LSx truck motor, and at least the exhaust ports point down, which helps give you a chance with the exhaust...

Heavy bitch though, for sure... even with all that AL stuff on it..

Actually; With Aluminum heads, etc. It is less than 25lb's different than a iron head small block Chevy. Some people carry more weight from mud on their shoes than that. :)

It does fit very well, of course I am using all Chevy transmission and 205 t-case.

You know you only live once. You don't want to get old and look back and think I wonder what that Big Block would have been like in that old FJ40?
Actually that is true for everything in life........

Have Fun and Love what you are doing and who you are doing it with!
:D

You can have an all aluminum GM 402 or 416ci LSx engine that weighs 450lbs or so as another option. LS2 or L92 block with 4" stroker crank. With 4.1" crank you can get 427ci+.

If you want to spend some serious coin you can build a 485ci LSx small block as well.

Why not just buy a GM 6.0/4L80E combo from a wrecked truck and if that isn't enuf power..... add a turbo to it? car-parts.com as a source. A friend just purchased this same combo with 19K miles on it for $1800. The engine will reliably make 5-600rwhp turbocharged with only a cam swap (Z06 C5 Vette stock cam) and upgraded valvesprings.

Well yeah, but if you're going to compare apples to apples, then take, for example, my truck LS motor, which is 100lbs+ lighter, or an all-aluminum LS1, which is 80 lbs lighter than that...

But big blocks do sound cool, and people (me included) have run iron-headed SBC's by the hundreds..

gnx7 - in this hobby, the lifespan of your engine is inversely proportional to the amount of time and money you have in it. I'm fully convinced of that.. :grinpimp:
