Big Bend Grand Tour 2009

Interested in an expedition throughout the Big Bend region of Texas? This is your opportunity to explore this wild and beautiful corner of Texas.

July 24th Toyota and Land Rover enthusiasts will depart from various locations throughout the state and meet in Fort Davis, Texas. This will be the starting point of a five day tour of the Big Bend area that people are welcome to enjoy as their schedule permits. Sites to be explored include the McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Davis Mountains State Park, Pinto Canyon road through the Chinati Mountains, the Chinati Hot Springs, Lajitas, TX., Terlingua, TX., and Big Bend National Park. Stock vehicles are fine and many people are bringing the entire family. Feel free to camp or stay in the reasonably priced lodging that's been reserved for our group.

For additional information and the itinerary, please see the forum thread at this location: Texas Rovers: Forums / Events / Big Bend, July 24th - 29th

This thread will answer the basic questions and plans. Please post any questions about the trip in the Texas Rovers forum so we don't fragment any information and the discussion is centrally located.

We hope you can join us!

Sounds great...need to start talking with Cindy about doing this trip.
Thanks for posting up this Brett.

You should include Marfa Lights observatory in your trip. It's really close to Ft. Davis.

It's kinda interesting but we won't be in that area at dark. Plus, you're never guaranteed to see them.

I wouldn't want to be in that area at dark either. I've heard there are ax murderers running towards the observatory with flashlights.:eek::eek:

Crap, this is the same time period that the colorado invasion is planned. Going to someplace cooler than hotter sounds like the smarter idea at this time of year. I've about had it with texas heat after these past couple of scorching weeks...f'ing ridiculous.

Yea why so close to the Colorado trip!!:censor: I always wanted to see that part of Texas hear its neat!

Yeah, the timing just worked out that way. The Land Rover National Rally in Telluride starts the same week. I'd go to Colorado if I could too but this will be a great trip.

Too close to Colorado trip so I cant go for sure blah... But Chris and I will proably be down there next weekend to work on the house.

Well I hope you and your "friend" have a nice little boy's weekend away from prying eyes. Don't let anyone take photos of you two all alone out there in the desert.

The group is growing and it's looking like a fantastic trip is on the horizon. There's still time to join us.

Everything ok with LC? Get it fixed?

Yes, just a sneaky fuse. Through the fuse window it looked good but when I put a meter on it, it was clearly "open".

Some brilliant engineer at Toyota put the power windows and AC on the same circuit. Duh! Come on, even the British don't do that. AC goes out and you can't roll the windows down!
