Big Agnes Encampment and Dual core pad,

The best nights sleep you will ever have.

Dual Core Air Pad

Big Agnes Encampment

The air pad is filled with insulation and sleeps very warm with any bag. The encampment is a semi mummy style with plenty of room to move around but little dead air to create cold spots. The big bonus is the pocket on the bottom of the bag that exactly fits the air pad, no more rolling off the pad during the night!

I slept better with this combo than I do in my bed at home.

What is the temp rating at? If it is low enough I would be very interested in it.
Per their web site 15°, I'm pretty sure that's Fahrenheit. I've had to vent it at the bottom every night I've used it so far.

If you want a slick setup get the complete system. My wife and Me both have the Big Agnes Lost Ranger 15's. The insulated air core is a must. It fits in the back of the sleeping bags built in pocket. I fill mine up with air, lay down and then let a light amount of air out till it feels like our bed at home. It also has a built in pillow pocket. I dont care for the big agnes pillow. I really like the Exped Air Pillow. It is tiny to pack, and has a elasticity feel to it. As close to a pillow at home as you can get.

I absolutely love my Big Agnes gear. I have a horse thief sleeping bag with an insulated air core pad as well as a seedhouse SL1 tent. I've had all three for years and have nothing to complain about.

Kind of funny this topic came up. I was on online chaty for about 2 hours last night with Backcountry.com and REI. I was told by both of them to use the insulated pad with the bag(the bottom of these bags are opbnly nylon and zero insulation) eventhough I sleep on a cot with a Cabelas foam pad.
I am looking at rthe Big Agnes bags and the Marmot Sawtooth.

BTW, Rusty, how big aqre you? The one thing I need is a bag that is not mummy styled. I am not tall but stocky, but I am a seriously restless sleeper. My knees are bad and need to constantly flex my knees and move my legs around or my kness will cramp up bad.

If it helps I have the tall sleeping bag. I am 6'6" tall and 265 the Big agnes is perfect for me. I move around a lot also.

Just in case you dont already know. Most Sleeping bags are rated to be used with a pad. If you are on a cot, or hammock the rating isnt what the bag is rated for. Some will be. They are working on a standard rating system for sleeping bags.

If you have the money look into Feathered Friends. They are amazing, and will tailor for your needs.

I have the Cabelas cot ad I am not sure if it is "insulated" like the Big Agnes and thermarest. I may have to buy a insulated pad to slip into the bag. Traditionally, I know that if a bags rating is 15 deg, it typically would mean that its a 35 degree bag.

I'm just under 6' and 210#. The encampment isn't a true mummy bag, it has the hood and a slight taper toward the foot. I find a regular rectangular bag has cold spots in the corners by the feet, and is drafty around the head and shoulders not so with this bag. A regular mummy bag confines my feet and they sweat, I also feel like I'm wearing the bag rather than sleeping in it. The encampment has enough wiggle room to be comfortable for me, YMMV.

I've had the Big Agnes insulated air mat for a couple of years and used it with different bags. I would say that it conservatively extends the comfort of any bag by at least 15 degrees.
If I had the bucks I'd have an Exped Down filled air pad, the Big Agnes is a nice $$ compromise.

Sounds like a good setup. I would love to have the Exped Down filled air pad. I had to settle for the pillow. If you havent tried the pillow, you should check it out. When I take the wife I bring along a down blanket also. We got 2 down blankets from ''Sports Authority'' for $20.00 each. They are small but they are nice for sitting in the hammock or adding a little heat inside the bag when its real cold.

Not to take away from the thread but Big Agnes actually stole our designs not too long ago. Hyalite Equipment actually designed most of the air core sleeping pads on the market today. We are have the same pad coming out next season with Aspen Aerogel insulation.... makes it a true 4+ season sleeping pad at the same weight. Please check us out... I can organize a group buy from us if anyone is interested...

Forgot the Aerogel link, it has some of the highest R values on the market for weight/ space ratio.... NASA includes it in many of their space applications where weight and insulation properties are critical...

Keep checking our web site ;-) should be out next spring..... Right now we make a double that fits PERFECT in a 100 series, provided you have drawers in the back.
