A neighbor of mine has a set of BFG Mud-Terrain T/A KR’s for sale. Yes KR’s not KM’s. They closer to the BAJA T/A’s than the Mud-Terrains. They were her husband’s (he’s no longer with us) and she wants them out of the garage. I’m probably going to pick them up no matter what. $150 for the set. They’re probably $400 tires (each).

I wondered if anyone has experience with these tires or the BAJA T/A’s. I know they’re race tires but maybe they’d work as a wheeling set?

Best picture I could find:

Here's a picture of the tread pattern.. IIRC they are super hard in order to stand up to desert racing.

Yeah, those are the BAJA's. I believe the KR's are for closed circuit racing. Probably just as hard as the BAJA's.

The pics you have in post one is the Mud Terrain KR as you stated used by the Baldwins and others on their CORR trucks. BFG made these fairly recently for the CORR series. Those as well as the BFG Projects (post 3 used in SCORE, MDR, SNORE etc.) have the same carcass and are very heavy duty as well as heavy. The tread pattern is the only difference between them. They are obviously tuff but the weight and ride quality would probably be too harsh for the average Joe. Another drawback if you like to get in the rocks is the lack of sidewall flex and conforming even at very low pressures. IF you are a stickler for this sort of thing they are not DOT legal either. The Baja T/A's you mention is a different tire and has a tread patter that is a cross between the Projects and a regular Mud Terrain KM. The tires carcass is also a compromise between the two in strength and ride/flex. They came out about 15 years ago and were immediately sought by the rock crawling crowd for their stregth but were just as quickly replaced as they just didn't work well in the low speed, low pressure environment. I think the Baja T/A's are still available but I haven't seen them in awhile. My .02

Edit: I almost forgot the Projects and KR's are not available in a 16" rim size, 17" only.

Just what I was looking for, thanks Mo.

I might still pick them up just because:
  1. they're cheap
  2. she wants them out
  3. she could use the cash (every little bit helps)
BTW: 4Wheel Parts has the BAJA T/A's.

Jeez, at least give her $200. Man, that's a steal of a price.

She said she would take $100. I offered more. The most she said was $150! I bought some yard tools and potted plants from her and tried to give her $100. She wouldn't have it. Only took $60. What can you do?

No problem and they do indeed. Sorry for the confusion. The Baja T/A's above are often called Projects and that is what I have always called them. The original Baja T/A's were pretty different and after awhile BFG tested a few prototypes of an even tougher tire with the top SCORE teams referred to as projects. They worked, replaced the originals but their Project nickname stuck and voila. Confusion. :flipoff2:

Good score (no pun intended), used Projects or K/R's usually go for $200 a piece. You might make a buck or two if so inclined. ;)

The wife was talking to her yesterday morning and the tires came up. Between the two of them, they agreed on $100 and paid cash. Never thought I'd be upset about the :princess: spending less money!

Good deal, happy that worked out for you. I know what you mean it can be pretty frustrating when people are too nice and won't let you help them as much as you want to.

FWIW This is not the best picture but it shows the "Original" Baja T/A I was refering to. I couldn't find it on BFG's website so I couldn't figure out the official name these days. But they are still available but probably only to racers. The photo is from the MDR Ridgecrest 200 May 6th of this year.

that's funny I worked with trackside photo for a short time.

Yeah I wish I still worked for trackside photo. It was a very cool Job. Jim the owner had a nice FJ62.
