Still enjoying my FJ cruiser that i bought a year ago due to high recommendation on this site.

I have about 33 000 Km on the OEM Dunlop tyres.

I am thinking to go to BFG AT as my next tyres.

On road comfort matters to me as i have daily long commutes here in Saudi Arabia where i work.

Gets pretty hot out there on the tarmac.

Thinking to go BFG AT , how is it for higway driving in hot weather ? Occasional off roading in Sand ?

Shall i stick to 265/75/16 or go for 285/75/16 ?

Thanks
Jay

My rig came stock with 265/75/15 BFG A/T's and and I think that is one of the best tires for that rig. I was able to get over 50k miles and they still had tread left when I replaced them with 285/75/16 KM2's. The mud terrain tires wore much faster and I will be going back to the A/T's shortly. The 285's are the right size tire for the FJ. Your speedometer will even be correct (its not with the 265's).

Will the 285/75/16 BFG AT rub at all or slow down the FJ ? I do want to end up doing a lift or regear at all. I have long commutes.

How many miles shall i expect from the OEM's Dunlop ? I have 34 000 KM ( 21 000 miles ) on them already but it is pretty hot here in Saudi with rough and hot tarmac.

50k miles is reasonable if they are rotated properly.

BFG AT's are very good for pavement and sand. They are also very long lasting. 70k+ miles is not unreasonable with proper rotation, though I'd expect a bit less with desert heat involved.

It might rub the body mount - depends on the individual vehicle. Some do, some don't. Search "body mount chop" for the relatively simple fix.

You will lose some acceleration and increase braking distance due to the increased rotational mass. It won't be drastic, but it will be noticable. That's the price you pay for bigger tires.

I guess i m better off staying with the 265 / 75 /16 since the truck is my daily driver....

I have 285/75 16 and they do rub and I have OME springs. They are very good offroad and as I have supercharged fj.
But for daily drive I would go with smaller size which come stock on some FJ:)

I found 270 65 16 in BFG AT KO I believe this will be wider and a bit shorter than the OME size 265 75 16...

FWIW, I have 285/75R17's BFG AT's on FJC with just a front spacer lift (~100$) with no rubbing. They're great onroad, last forever, and will be decent (not spectacular) in sand. No noticeable power loss. I say go for it!

Guys i only found at the dealer in saudi the following BFG Saize : 275 x 70 x 16

Will it fit ok or rub since it is wider ??

Will the truck sit a bit lower ?

Thanks
Jay

Smaller overall diameter, 4mm wider. Speculation says it will fit w/o rubbing but, its a guess.

Yes, it will sit a bit lower, ~.25"

I don't know anyone else who has run this size tire, sorry I can't be more helpful...
