Looks like I may be able to get a very good deal on a full set of BFG All Terrain TA/KO's in size LT285/65 R18E.

I am currently running the stock P275/60 R18 on my wife's 2006 LC daily driver. We also take her car on family trips (2 kids) that many times include the mountains in winter (snow) and desert in summer (light off-road) .

Any thoughts/experience (good or bad) re: this tire.

Will this tire have a rougher ride or be much louder than the current tires?

Also, I assume that a stock 2006 LC should easily handle this slightly larger size without any trouble, correct?

All Terrain T/A's are probably the best tires for the money. They are quiet on the road. I enjoyed the performance off-road,(pertaining to rock and sandy gritty soil in Arizona), and the overall performance on the highway. Your gas mileage may diminish a little, but overall I enjoyed them. I am considering putting them on my new mini toyota truck. However I had 15" wheels using the 31x10.5x15 on my old cruiser which worked great. I hate the price tag that came along with them, but I think they are worth it in the long run. A recommendation is rotating them every 5,000 miles or so. Your Land Cruiser will be fine using these tires.

Great tire, try to avoid the E load range tire as they will have a thicker sidewall and ride significantly firmer than a C or D range tire, which will in turn ride significantly firmer than your stock P metric tire.

Remember when going to a LT tire to increase your tire pressure 8-10 psi over stock.
 
I have run the BFG AT's on four different trucks, everything from an FJ40 to a hopped up Excursion. Always had great wear and traction in anything but mud. That lesson made for some embarrassing situations... However, check out Sams Club when you are shopping them. I have never found anyone to beat their price on the BFG's.

Unfortunately they don't give you a choice. Unless you go to 37s, every single BFG T/A KO tire made in the 18" size is an E load tire.

edit: Sorry, they also make a 35 incher, but both it and the 37 are still D range tires.

I had the "E" range on the FJ Cruiser and they did not live up to my expectation. They are good in a variety of off-road situations (except mud) but on road manners do suffer. Because of the square profile you need to watch tire pressure closely otherwise they will develop a tendency to "wander"

I agree, the ride definitely will suffer. Depends on your tolerance level, I guess. Personally, I didn't think it was that bad. But then again, the 100 Series weighs over 1000 pounds more than the FJ, which probably helps dampen the stiffness to a degree (and my 100 weighs even more than that...). 1000+ pounds is a significant amount of weight.
 
The load rating will be a problem unless you enjoy a very rough ride. I was happy with off road traction and durability (Chevy truck), but on road was just not acceptable, They would wander left one day, then right the next. When cornering aggressively on mountain highway they were unpredictable. My alignment tech said they nearly all have separation issues in the plys, and BFG will not accept that to be a warranty replaceable problem. You better be sure you like em a lot cause they last forever.
