I am wondering while I am into it if I should look at getting a different transfer case while I am replacing the engine with a v8. My old 74 transfer case can probably handle it, I just thought there might be a better trasfer case for a 5 speed trani.

Welcome.

Dana 300....but you will need a centered rear axle housing, as the 300 has a centered rear output.

Also you can really gear down a toyota pickup t-case(s) or double them up.
I went with np205 cause it was really heavy duty and cheap. Also, I didn't need the low gearing with the wheeling here in the nw.

Went with a toyota axled dana 60 for the rear. Cheap and good enough for my wheeling.

5spd tranny? what are you using?
