I've seen a few threads on the subject of Sylvania bulbs (with some negative comments about their life expectancy).
What options are out there for replacement of OEM headlamp bulbs in the LX470 that would put out more light? What have you tried, and how did you like it? Any major caveats?
I haven't tried Sylvania bulbs, but there's a ton of stuff here and other places about them as well as other brands. Generally, suggestions include hir bulbs in both high and low beams. 9011 replaces the oem 9005 high beam...not sure of the part that replaces the low beam. My LX is an '01, ymmv.
What REALLY gave me a great boost in lighting was replacing the low beams with hid bulbs. DDM Tuning, ~$70 delivered direct from China. 55W ballasts, 5000K H1 bulbs, relay harness, and mounting brackets. Brackets turned out to be not needed.
The hid bulbs really show the relative suckage of the oem bulbs. Front lighting throws the beams at least 3X further than oem. Color temperature is very white, no traces of getto blue. Cutoff height was unchanged based on garage door testing.
I think outstanding bang for the buck, now interested in how these things last.
Hid's are useless as high beams as they're designed to work with projectors only, and oem high beams are set up as reflectors. I've now got a big color difference between highs and lows.
Thinking maybe of replacing highs with 9011 hir's.
