My Slee sliders are rusting and rock chipped. What would be the best aerosol paint for long term durability and easy touch up?

I want a low gloss or satin finish, but not flat. I also don't want to spend a whole lot of effort in prep work since they're... well, sliders.

I am thinking Hammerite Rust Cap Smooth (self priming) - I've used this on other projects and it seems OK, but I'm not sure how it will hold up to rock chips.

I was going to remove the sliders, blast at close range with my 3200 psi pressure washer to remove the loose rust and dirt, then dry with compressed air and wipe down with lacquer thinner. Does that sound adequate or must I sand? If so, what grit? The surfaces are already pretty rough with no wax or silicone.

BTW the original finish is black powder coat, about 8 years old.

Thanks for any advice.

ive used undercoating spray with great results. its not so much the scraping over rocks that gets the finish chipping...its all the rock chips from daily driving. just quickly sanded it over, mainly the bottom of the sliders, then hit it liberally with undercoating...about 2 or 3 coats. stuff is thick and durable. others ive seen use rhino liner or line-x or similar. undercoating spray is cheaper...and when it dries its not as bumpy or textured as bed liner... YMMV

I just repainted the sliders on my FJC. I pulled them off, washed with my pressure washer, sanded with 100 grit to knock down edges of chipped paint/powdercoat, wiped down with laquer thinner, them sprayed about four coats of flat black Rustoleum, let dry overnight and then bolted on.

I used semi-gloss Rustoleum on the sliders for my 55 and it wasn't much less glossy than full gloss. I haven't used the hammer-finish but have heard it looks nice.

I would definitely sand - at least lightly. I probably spent an hour sanding both of the sliders on my FJC - it won't take long and will give you a better final result.

I have used the hammered finish, and I think that is the look he is after. Gives it a rough finish, similar to Rhino-lining except thinner and less durable. Just realize that it will not last long on the rocks; but then again, nothing does, but it is cheaper than other methods for the look you are after.

I used the Industrial Rustoleum in semi-gloss for my sliders and have been happy with it. It has held up well for rattle can paint. In my limited experience, it is a lot tougher than the standard Rustoleum.

I would repaint them with tremclad flat black or some really good primer then rocker gaurd them you don't want bare metal under the rockergaurd tho because it will rust... I wouldn't use any asphalt crap....
