I have a 2019 Land Cruiser; tires on now are 285/60R18 & I need a really good off-road tire. Most I find are 65. Can I put a 65 tire on my car? If not, what is the best off-road tire I can get. Using it for rough road, mud, steep inclines. Thank you...Pat

Yes, 286/65/18 is a safe choice as is 275/70/18.

What do you want out of the tire?
Are you going to lift the truck?
If you choose bigger than a 65 profile are you willing to trim some plastic? Install spacers?

There are ones better at on road, ones better at off road ones in the middle.

I don't know what's best off road I'll leave that for other members to speak on, but for an all-terrain tire the BFG KO2 is a solid choice. I heard good things about Toyo AT3's.

maxxis razr m/t has been getting a fair amount of positive press. Available in a lot of 18” sizes.

Thanks for the info. The tires on now are 60s...is there a space issue if I go to 65s? I don't know much about this. When you ask about lifting the rig, I presume that a tire with a bigger sidewall than 60, would require more room in the wheel wells (?)

Probably looking for something in the middle. I will look into the tires you mentioned, thanks again. pat...

Maybe. The 60, 65, 70 etc is a percentage of tread width, so the first number matters too. I'm running 275 70 R 18 on my 200.

BFG KO2 285/60/18 (STOCK size) Load Range D. That’s what i have. Great tire! AND you don’t have to replace the spare tire since it is stock size. $$$ save! :)

Some 285/65/18 do rub the KDSS bar slightly at extreme steering angles.

Thank you, I will look at those.
I have always loved BFGs and Michelins and Super Swampers, and thats pretty much all Ive ever purchased. But the Nitto Trail Grappler MT is a really good tire. I fell into a set that I ran some REALLY hard trails with and they did great, even with 50% tread. They are made in the US, too. Expensive, but a really good tire. And one of the best-looking in my opinion.

You want a really good off road tire? Maxxis treps!
But if you're only going up 1 aspec size do you really need a true offroad tire? Or just about any of the all terrain hybrid mud/all terrain be good enough?

I vote
35” treps

General Grabber X3 M/T, BFG KM3, Toyo Open Country M/T, and Nitto Trail Grappler are pretty good mud terrain tires. You could also look into hybrid terrains like the Nitto Ridge Grappler, Toyo Open Country R/T, or Kenda Klever R/T. All of them come in 285/65R18. If you are lifting at the same time, you could even try to squeeze in a 285/70R18 (34").

Be careful with 275/70 That will rub. That is 33.2". I had 33.0" and had a slight rub at full lock on both 16 and 20LC (OEM wheels and no spacers). Unless modified suspension I would stay below 33.0" Definitely less if going with laser offset wheels.

You should always try to get the smallest possible rim - to get more gum under the car! 17" is the smallest size, because of the break disks.

Please note too that the Landcruiser 200 are sold different around the world, which brings other Tyre Sizes with, who are possible without further modding:

US/Australia: euquiped with KDSS Suspension
Europe/South America: with AHC (active height control).

With the european AHC you can fit LT285/75R17 what is 34". As you can see behind the link that I did query for lexus 570 Users - they all have AHC and was able to anser my question better ;) In the Picture you can see 33" on 17 Rims (285/70/r17).

Bigger is better is NOT true. The car is done for a given tyre size, the suspension, the gear-setup - tons of engineers did try to do the best setup for your car. The best compromiss between tarmac, gravel and offroad. If you want to stay with that, stay at the original 31" Size and enjoy.

To add bigger tyres means a completely different feeling: less power, less brakes, automatic transmission is working more and you odometer shows the wrong speed. Your spare tire dont fit below, you had to add a rear wheel carrier - and have to remove the wheel each time you want to open the rear door.

- You can work on the gear shift ratio
- You can adjust the speedometer
- You can add better brakes

But because bigger tyres lift you a bit, it will make the side tilt angle worse till you will topover. If you ever will be on the german highway with your car, your vmax will be limited through the lift who comes with bigger tyres. Most of us 33" or bigger tyre drivers would not be able to change a tyre and to lift the faulty tyre with rim up to the rearbar carrier without help.

It is possible to do bigger sizes like 33" or 34, with mods even 35" - but the car is then more for rock crawling than for cruising on roads. Your car is not same capable after start modding. It will need time, other mods and money, to get a part of the capability back. It may be better offroad, but not same capable on tarmac.

If you want to go the modding path - have fun! And keep the eyes on the terrain you plan to travel mostly!

If you ask for the best offroad tyre - we should look for the profile (AT / Mud Terrain) and the differences between the different brands... Even there. Doing a 1000 miles road trip with MT Tyres with 55 miles on the highway - hell it is pretty loud after some hours.
