So, did a search, but all of the info it turned up was relatively old insofar as computer "stuff" goes. I'm thinking about getting a OBD-11 scanner for my newly acquired 100 series. I would like to leave it plugged in all of the time, and would like to get the readout on my iPad. I'm thinking of using DashCommand for the readouts. I would prefer a bluetooth connection over wifi or hard wired.

What do you good folks recommend? I could spend up to maybe $150, but less is always better.

Thanks!

Apple devices will not pair with those bluetooth ones unless you're jailbroken and feel up to jumping through some hoops to make it work. There are knockoffs of the PLX kiwi wifi adapter, I bought one for about $30 and although I can see the network and join it I have not been able to get it to work beyond that let alone see statistics. Not to mention it would add a good 2 minutes to my routine of starting the engine and going if I used it every time I drive. Maybe a real PXL system would work well, but I have not cared enough to drop over $100 on some cables. If you're serious, look into this system here. As for things being outdated in the other thread you mentioned, I feel that everything about making your phone/tablet an OBDII scanner is outdated.
