Set a budget for yourself, stick to it and buy the best one you can find. That's what I did and I ended up with a '06. Relatively low mileage but needed a bit of baselining. Couldn't be happier.

I'm really bad at the budget thing. I figure what I want then look for a way to pay for it.
This can create stress and marital discord.

I'm confused. My 98 100 has cruise - I use it every day. Why would a newer one be any different?
When you come to a complete stop, does the truck forget what cruise speed you had? Sometimes they'll forget if you drop below 20mph (or somewhere around there). In 2006, they changed that so it always remembers.

Not to my knowledge. I don't remember it not remembering the cruise speed. And this happens to me fairly often as I stop at toll booths. I'll check again tomorrow.

I've been doing the 60/62 thing for a long time. I've been giving some thoughts to moving to an Lx470 and I'm interested in thinking regarding models. I've got a 90 Fj62 which which is lifted OME, ARB and a number of other improvements. Not seeing any harsh off road in the future so I'm thinking about upgrading to 470. Any thoughts?

To everyone who took the time to reply. I appreciate the input and this has been very helpful in narrowing down the direction I want to take. I really have to convince myself that after all the work and money I need to let the 62 go. As I friend said to me, "it will never be as nice as it is now." But, garage space and money are both at a premium.

I used to have a 60 and it was a great truck. The 100 is better in virtually every way possible. I miss the manual transmission, but not much else.

I agree with Iceman. I have a 60 which was my daily driver for 7 years. Although I still own it and drive it as a hunting vehicle when I transport my dogs, I wouldn't choose it as my primary vehicle today. The manual choke is a pain. The lack of power is a pain. The manual transmission is a pain in anything but cruise mode. The gas mileage is also a pain. That being said, it is still fun to drive and has been virtually indestructible.

My 100 is so much better in every reasonable way. Starts up on a cold day with no forethought. I could drive it all day and feel great afterward. And, at 16 years of age, is 11 years younger than my 60. 11 years in car years is huge.

Have considered replacing my 99 with an 80 or a later 60. Every time I find one, I convince myself that I already have a better model. I know my vehicle and what it can do and don't believe there is a better one. Just need to keep on making it better with new stuff. Wouldn't consider changing to a later year 100 and think mine is as good as it get's.
Just an opinion.
