Ive got an '87 fj60 that has a non-stock muffler & cat on it right now. The Cat is probably ok, except that it doesn't have a port for the thermo sensor, and the muffler looks kinda small and I think it may be restricting exhaust flo too much. I would like a more free flowing exhaust system but don't want the overly obnoxious sound of a Flowmaster etc. Are there any options between a stock exhaust and a Flowmaster?

BTW, I crawled under there and measured the pipe going into & out of the cat and it was 2.5" while the pipe coming out of the muffler was 2.25", what is stock diameter?

And finally, whats your best guess as to what a new exhaust (cat & muffler) should typically cost? (In N. CA)

Thanks guys,
Dave

Ugh, Kalifornia. Turbo (Diesel) bummer.

HJ-60 with a 1HZ in it. 3" exhaust no cat no muffler!

I always liked going custom stainless. Then playing with or without a muffler.

I went with a Dynomax. Just a bit louder than stock and gas milage improved slightly. I think it was around $150 from Y pipe back for 2.5"

Thanks for the answers. I went with a magna flow on 2.5" pipe. My cat was already a high flow apperently. Quick questions: the guy told me that because my cat was a newer high flow model I don't need the thermo sensor to be hooked up? He says this wont cause any over heating problems?? Is that true?
