Anyone have a recommendation on a cheaper, but still good, quality Chinese-made car shelter/tent? (yes, an oxymoronic conundrum indeed)

Sometimes these things go on sale at the wholesalers for ridiculously low, loss-leader type prices.

I know you probably only get a year or so out of these, but it just started raining here, and I don't want to leave the cruiser out all winter in this Pacific North West rain!

Costco has a decent one, heavier duty than others I've seen, not sure if they have much of a snow load rating??

I bought one from Costco for the same purpose. It was about $200 and it's pretty good quality. Stood up to some pretty good wind/rain storms. There's a bit of room left over for minor wrench pulling if you need it, as well...

I would go with the Costco tent. I use them for work and they hold up pretty good. After the first year or so there is a bit of wear through at the upper peak but nothing that makes it unusable.

x4 on the Costco tent. We get tons of wet heavy snow. Bout once a week last winter I would go out with my push broom and give a gentle push on the inside of the roof to get the snow to slide off. My father in law has the same and got a replacement roof section sent out for cheap directly from the manufacturer or importer or distributor or whoever's contact information is on the box (stabbed through the canopy w/ a shovel instead of a broom). My only complaint is the eyebolts on the turnbuckles stretch out when the load becomes too heavy. Also think about building a perimeter skid out of 2x6's (like in your pic) with a cross brace in the middle and lag bolt the feet to it to keep it anchored. HTH.

you could use racking(pallet racking)8<> 10ft high (uprights) x 4 and 6 to 8 cross beams 8 feet or 10 feet or 12 feet depending how wide you have. build 2 sets of pallet racking then tarp or use old 4x8.
I have lots around,I don't want to spend $200-500 if I have material here.
I estimate cost of used racking
$20 for uprights x 4 $80
$15 for cross beams x 6 minimum (x8 being sturdier)$90
Nice tarp $50+
4x8 free on any local craigslist...
Under $300 and an afternoon, you got something solid to store your LC under + top storage :)
If your in the GTA I ll make you one,but it will be more than $300 :)

Good call on the pallet racking! I've always looked at that stuff and thought, if it can hold all that junk on pallets, it can hold up a roof!

I think that would be much more long term, and useful.

I also thought about using that stuff to build a cabin somewhere. Use straw bale insulation or something crazy.

I just need short term though, my place is a rental.

I'm looking at a couple cheap car shelters on craigslist right now.

Hi there, Do you have the contact information for the Costco carport/tent/shelter? I need to get a replacement top for the exact reason you father-in-law need his! Thanks for assistance!
