Hi there yall! My name is Parker; I’ve been stalking mud ever since I got my 2001 LC almost two years ago, to which I have nicknamed Bessie.
I got a generous discount on a salvage title that is (almost) mechanically perfect, with ~150k on the odometer at time of purchase. Since then she just broken 175. So far I’ve only done basic maintenance like re-packing wheel bearings, fixing the fan bracket after it seized on Christmas Eve (glad to know that it did not require the serpentine belt for the last 10 minutes home), simple oil changes and failing coils.
I’ve only been driving for 6 years, and been working on vehicles for about the same amount of time; my first vehicle was a family owned, dilapidated 1999 new edge mustang GT, that I repaired and maintained to both daily to school, as well as take to Sonoma a handful of times.
My priorities since then have changed to having a reliable form of transportation, as I live around 8 hours away from my family for school. I’ve since taken her almost all over California, from Humboldt (1st pic above) to Tahoe, Yosemite and southern California.

However, it wasn’t until what occurred this morning, that I have finally felt obligated to make a post.
Here lies the results of an un-insured, “borrowing his friends car”, learning driver that smashed into my poor bessie’s left rear, along with an unlucky prius and wall. This is in the corner of the parking lot for my apartment complex.
My lowest visual estimate from Caliber Collision for all of the damage just about reaches $10,000. However, I’m mainly focused on the quarter panel damage pictured below. I’m less worried about the tailgate, and largely am unbothered by the damaged bumper and tail light, as they’re much smaller issues. Would definitely be a good excuse for an armored rear end, just so I don’t have to go through this again.
Here is my end-of-the-day patch job for now, until I can get bulbs with attached filaments ordered from partsouq.
Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated as I am accepting that I will probably not be compensated for these damages, from someone who lives in the same apartment complex as myself. We’ll see how small claims goes if it gets to that point, though I am very doubtful.
I would like to sign off with the fact that Irvine, CA, in my experience, holds the lousiest drivers of all time. Also, glad to join mud
