Walker,

I'm curious about your 350 TBI swap. I'm planning on doing one myself on my '85 60 this winter. Do you have any insight or recommendations?

Gene

Thanks, I was just fishing for any pointers. When the time comes to start I'm sure I'll be here asking questions.

ELKHUNTER

It looks like you have a nice start & a plan for your beast!:cheers:........
Which trany/transfer combo did they put in her?

RAMZ.

RAMZ,

Behind the Ranger torque splitter is the stock h42 & tc. Forward of the Ranger is all Chev (engine/bellhsg). Swapping in an h55 for the 1st gear seems enticing but the OD would really be a bit redundant with the Ranger. It would seem to make more sense to put 4.56's or 4.88's eventually in the diffs. Still won't make 1st gear as low as I'd like but, hey, everything's a compromise, right?

I plan on swapping the carb 350 & clutch/bellhsg out for the 87 TBI 350, clutch/bellhsg (the 87 clutch is low mileage so barring anything obvious I'll use it). I've already fabbed an adapter to use the GM master clutch cylinder on the firewall so for now I'll stick with the GM slave too. I know everything I've read says I've got to use the 11" CF low profile clutch but that's if I stay with the Toyota master & slave, right? I hope I'm good with that.

Walker,

Didn't mean to highjack your thread. Still, anything you might like to share about your TBI setup that could be helpful would be appreciated.

Thanks

Replacing the rotors sucks...not only did it take a couple hours, but i found my knuckle bearing grease was black and gummy with a bunch of crap in it.

also rebuilt my calipers since they were stuck closed and now i can actually brake!!! :) pics to come

............. I dont really like the TBI on it, id prefer a carb so that i dont need a computer and a bunch of other crap. it gets 16ish MPG on freeways and 10 with the way i drive in town.............

Walker, you're getting 16ish mpg? That's great actually! But I need to know, is that with a Ranger OD splitter or maybe an h55 OD transmission swapped in? If you're getting that mileage without any OD and running 31s I am truly impressed. If so I'm even more anxious to get to my TBI swap. Please let me know.

ok, so I grabbed the paper with the info on the car, and the transmission is a 1988 700R4.

After some quick research it looks like that transmission has a .700:1 OD 4th gear. 16 mpg makes sense. Sounds like it's doing well for you. Hope I can do the same with mine.

Well, not really, I just googled 700R4 and got enough info to see you have an OD gear in that tranny. The net and this site have a wealth of info. Cheers.

haha ya, my deal is just drive her til something breaks then have my hunting buddy and good friend who works at napa autoparts look and help me fix it. im not a big logistics guy

I cant get Photobucket to work otherwise my rotor pics would be up...in the meantime, i put my sway bar back on up front and HATE it. its a smoother ride but not nearly as fun offroad. my auxillary lights in the rear also need to be remounted, they decided to fall off the other day

Photobucket is finally working so heres the brake rotor replacement pictures

old rotor vs new rotor. i prob should have replaced them sooner

rebuilt and regreased the winch today. she purrs like a kitten now. new tires tomorrow too.

AAAAAHHHHH!

My transmission is going out and needs to be rebuilt which would be why my mileage has gone down the tube lately...Torque Converter seems to be the culprit here.

Also a knuckle rebuild is in the works in the next few days and all this needs to be done before Jan 14th when i go back to school

here are some pics for you all, not wheeling but hunting related and what i use this rig for!

From Top to Bottom, Valley (CA) Quail with my trusty Shotgun, Several doves my dad and I shot back in september, a HUGE Canada Goose I bagged this year, I am on the right in the picture, and one nice wheeling picture a little muddy and you can faintly see the dents from that darn tree...
