Hey guys,

I'm working on springs for my 40. The rear tires have been rubbing the fenders bad when loaded heavy for camping. Spent some time this weekend replacing a couple leafs in my homebrew rear pack. Now the truck is a bit ass high.

So, I took apart a pair of used front Beltons to clean them up, paint and graphite spray.

My question is: do these Beltons look normal? The main and military wrap leaf are almost flat. All the arch comes from the lower leafs.

Might do some mix and match with the springs if these don't look normal.

Last week I took apart my brand new OME springs to 'butter them' with grease before install and they didn't look too much different than what you have shown in your second picture.

However, looking at Norm's truck with the install (it happens to be in the same shop as mine!), the rear OME springs on his BJ74 look more 'arched' than mine. Not sure if this is a 40 vs 70 phenomenon or not.

My stock leaves were much flatter, but then they are 28 years old!

Perhaps others who have installed dozens of these things could be of more help.

Can't help you on if they look normal, cause I've never seen beltons apart, but my 3in black dimonds were sorta like that, and my stock leaves are sort of like that as well. talk to a spring shop see what they say, they can always ark them up a bit, I added an add a leaf into my rear pack and got my old addaleaf rearched as well while I was at it. Truck also sits ass high right now, but once I load it up it should be ok. I say just run the ass high look!;)

Thanks guys.

Was hoping someone that pulled a leaf or two out of a new Belton kit could chime in. Good to know other kits are made similar though.

My front springs all had about the same arch (i.e. not flat main leaf).

Maybe I'll leave it alone for now to see if the back settles any before pulling apart the front. I don't really mind the ass high look, that's how my 60 looks with the rear only SOA.

IMOP they look great, with the shackle leaning outward on the bottom you will have good articulation, but those shocks will be a limiting factor.
