Well today i went to the local parts store for some belts for my 1985 fj60. When the parts guy came back with them he had three in is hand and set them on counter. Well i questioned the application and asked him what he looked them up for, and he said an 85 toyota. . . . . hmmmmmmmm. I took them anyway, even though i only have two belts on my cruiser, i thought i was going crazy. So i came home and started doing a little searching and the consensus (sp?) is that there are 3 belts. Then i went out to look at my layout of accesories vs. the diagrams that are out there and realized my a/c and alt. are backwards. I don't know what to make of it so can someone help????
dunno if these help or not. . .

My 84 has the alternator on top passenger side and the AC compressor on the lower passenger side of the engine. Drive side top is PS pump and driver side lower is the smog pump.

Don't know if that is part of the problem or they changed configurations in 85.

Maybe someone else will chime in.

Calicruiser, I know what your going through, I am currently trying to add a factory AC to my 1985 FJ60 that i found used. The belt config is killing me as well the mounting brackets. I have done some research and depending on when your AC was installed, here in the US(dealer option) or in Japan, will determine the type compressor you have and the belt config./ placement, in your case AC on top. The compressor I am trying to install is a lower compressor and looks nothing like the compressor you have installed. The point I am trying to make is, I believe in 1985 there was more than one way to add AC. Hope that helps a little.
