Quick question: Since I've been considering getting my wife another 100, I want to know if there are any decent aftermarket wheels for that body style? In my opinion, one thing that looks SO good about an 80 is the wheel/tire/fender flare combination; likewise, what looks so POOR about the 100 is the flat-faced wheel, the seemingly narrow tire (although it's the same setup, it looks small to me), and the lack of a truly pronounced fender flare.........with that said, I am trying to find out if any decent wheels exist and where they can be found.......

Thanks,

dnp

For the wife...you want the bling-bling-22s? Or just a different style of 17s or 18s? I guess it doesn't really matter tho -- should be plenty of wheel options out there.

....This may have been beaten already . Perhaps 'searching' the archives will reveal mucho info .... *hint* :slap:

- 22's = excessive

- Get some 20's but have the low profile tires, that aren't so low:

I don't like the style of the rims but this is the kind of setup that I'm talking about on 20's. Sweet Look. The wifey would look hot in this!

Sammy,

I've recently seen a bunch of vehicles with those wheels. Though not my cup-o-tea, it's pretty neat the way they have some kind of free-wheeling device inside the wheel that keeps turning while you're stopped at red lights. Those wheels are real popular in Española.

IMHO - fugly rims.

...I love the colour of that 100 though ... if I upgraded to a 100 , that would be the one I'd get . Remember that big green 100 that was on sale a while back .. body lift I think , and 35 or 36's ? The never emailed anyone back I think .. too bad . Now that would have been a nice 100 .. colour and rubber inclusive :D

AFIAK in the US fender flares were not an option or standard. Yep SOR sells em. Look like crap IMOP as well as bling bling wheels, I really like the stock wheels.

Some 100 have fender flares. I'm sure they are readily available in the aftermarket. I think toyota sells them as well. They are really ugly though. I prefer the lines of the 80s, the 100 is too plain-jane, but sometimes plain-jane looks good after 15yrs than bolder styling.

My '99 dark green TLC 100-series has gray/silver flares that match the bumpers - I'm almost positive they were a factory option.

100 flares are not an OEM option (at least in the US). There are aftermarket ones that can be painted any way you like. TRD may have had some version of those. I seem to recall seeing that a few years back. It did not imprint well on me as we had a relocated customer that had them on his and they kept trying to fall off  . We had a difficult time telling him that they were not factory and we could not warranty them. :-\

Hmm. I guess LizardK and I have the only two good-looking 100s in America. :D

Dan, I saw some paperwork from the previous (original) owner, and those flares are listed as optional equipment, along with the third-row seat, rear A/C, wood grain interior trim, and sun roof air deflector. The flares cost about $550, IIRC.
The PO wasn't the type to add on after-market stuff. Check back in 1998 and 99, and I think you'll find that flares were an OEM or maybe a dealer-supplied item on the early 100s, just like on the late 80s.

I repeat, NOT FACTORY.

That vehicle was likely sold new out of Southeast Toyota or Gulf States Toyota, both privatly owned distributors (TX,OK,LA,FL,ETC). They both supply their own "in house" accessories that are not supplied or supported by TMS.

Yep, it was a Dallas, TX, truck.

The flares sure are a good match too the bumpers, fit well, and I really like the way they "round out" the slab-sided shape of the 100.
It's a shame you guys can't find them :'( :flipoff2:
