What stock wheel? Steel, aluminum?

I think Butch (Texican) has done this to some OEM Tacoma takeoff steelies.

thats what I ment.. has anyone done the weld ons to a stock FJ rim.

It shouldn't be any different than any other steely. Stength may be different than others though.

...and just be selective about the ring you get, or you might not be running hub caps anymore.

Hub caps would look so awsome inside a beadlock ring!

I have a question regarding weld-on beadlocks, sorry if its a little Hijackish. I was given a weld-on ring that a friend got from a race car shop. The weld-on part is 3/16" steel and the bolt on ring is 0.085" which sounds a little thin but it is contoured to add strength and fit against the bead (less coning). When I was in Moab last year though I saw beadlocks that looked very similar just with more bolts. There are 16 bolts, but I could easily add more. I was told by my friend that he can get them for about $50 or $60 Cdn. Whats everyone think?

So what does the inside of the outer bead seat against in that lock??

Those look creepy. I would do something stronger. Like a lot stronger

Ya, I know what you mean about the bead seat. I thought the ring looked a lot like the ring on some of the manufactured ones. I have nothing to compare it to. I know most of the weld on ones are 1/4" but they have to deal with the coning of the ring too.

Yeah, bu the second ones have a inside inner bead flat surface, they do nto rely on the old outer rim to seal. Easy to leak..

The coning issue is not why the aftermarket vendors make them at least 1/4". It is more for pure strength. The lock sees a TON of rock rash. And the thinner locks like you have (or the eatons for that matter) do not hold up to abuse.

The bolt heads do a good job of creating traction ;)

OK, thanks for the input Mace, I'll get 1/4" ones when (if) I do it.

I just didn't think they looked any different than these:

or these?

The second rockcrawler ones even have the same number of bolts and are from a race car shop.

look at the install on the Diy locks I think with the narrow stocker keepin the outer ring for width would be great. plus how the hell are you goin to trim off a in of the rim to weld the others on at home:beer:

Hey Kid, congrats on the healthy baby boy.

Yur not going to need those for a couple years, might as well give them to me......

Rob

Ya, looks the same. A guy in the 4x club here gave it to me. He used to be into race cars and he got it form a shop in Alberta. He said it was about $50, no cross border hassels. Sounds good, just not sure if its worth trying. I am strongly leaning toward Mace's advice. Let us know if you try em.

Thanks Rob, ya gotta come check things out. Bring that suweet mustard 40 over for a look see.

I only got one ring from Greg F. I think I'll drive a nail into the wall of the new garage and hang it up!
