Great meeting all you guys last night. Looks to be a pretty fun group and hopefully I will be able to get out on an easier trail run with everyone.

So last night you guys were talking about selling off the Air Pump Core in exchange for a York or Sunbeam? I am going to start looking into this so that way I can have enough in the cruiser fund like Jay was saying.

It was nice to finally met you Greg. I think the type of compressor you are looking is a Sanden. The York is too big. Of course others know more about this than I do.:) I passed you on the way home. You were going at least 65 MPH-I was impressed.:D then I was scared for you when I remembered what you said about your brakes:eek:. Been there done that.

LOL thought you passed me at some point. The brakes work but they are like old school, non assist brakes.

If I can truly get a Sanden pump for cheap and doesn't take a lot of modification to fit it up that would be awesome.

The 508 is, relative to Sanden 5 and 7 piston compressors, transfers less oil than the 7-piston variants. Although for us greedy types the 7 puts out another 1-1.5cfm over the 5 piston Sanden.

If you run a good coalescing filter like a Coilhose (http://www.coilhose.com/uploads/products/Page 60.pdf) with metal bowl and sight glass you'll capture enough of the oil pass by for tire inflation. If you want truly clean/pure air you'll need a 3-stage (12-20micron pre-filter followed by a coalescing 2nd stage filter followed by a vapor filter) to guarantee vapor free air downstream. Having said that I ran a 12micron Coilhose filter with a vapor filter after that downstream of my then 508 and had zero oil vapor smell in the final air.

And you want the filters located as far downstream of the compressor as practical as its easier to capture/filter the oil if its cooler rather than hotter.

I've vacillated doing the grease mod on my SD7 but I'm on the fence as I've read you really need to run the coalescing filter anyway to get grease vapor free air.

I've got mine setup to return the oil back to the Sanden from a drain on the coalescing filter.

FWIW Sanden 508 with v-belt have gotten a lot tougher to source from the junk yards.
